Not every decade culturally starts on the first year, but these are just some decades I think sorta “started on time” culturally in some ways. What do you think?
1990:
- George H.W Bush is already president
- new jack swing is a popular genre that would define the 90s
- cultural 90s shows like Seinfeld, The Fresh Prince, Family Matters, Beverly Hills 90210, Rosanne, and The Simpsons are popular
- 90s music acts like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, En Vogue, and post Control Janet Jackson were popular
2010:
- Obama is already president
- smartphones gaining popularity
- cultural 2010s shows like Adventure Time, Glee, Breaking Bad, Regular Show, and Modern Family were airing
- electropop was a popular genre
- some 2010s fashion like skinny jeans were popular already
- facebook and twitter were popular while myspace was already dead
- MCU was gaining more popularity with Iron Man 2
- instagram is released
2020:
- Covid (masks, lockdowns, vaccines, etc.)
- Tiktok
- Working from home starts to become more common
- Biden, although still not president, was elected
- Gen Z culture fully noticeable
- Billie Eillish, Lil Nas X, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion and other early 20s artists are popular from the beginning
- multiple streaming services become increasingly common this year
- NY drill blows up after Pop Smokes death
