Inspired by a comment I saw on another thread, this is a thread discussing decades and seeing which ones are based more in reality, and which ones are based more in fiction, at least when it comes to pop culture like movies and TV.
Most escapist 1. 2010s (both TV AND movies have generally had a strong escapist tone with many of them involving superheroes, fantasy, or sci-fi). 2. 1980s (mostly similar to the 2010s, but the TV shows are more down-to-earth for sure, and there are movies like The Breakfast Club that are more down-to-earth and based in reality) 3. 2000s (lots of superhero and fantasy stuff in film much like the 2010s, but there are more down-to-earth TV shows and movies) 4. 1950s (the golden age of sci-fi, even a lot of TV shows weren't based in reality back then) 5. 1960s (similar to the 50s but the movies are more based in realism) 6. 1990s (in film there was a much greater emphasis on gritty dramas and comedies still based in reality like Mrs. Doubtfire, and most TV shows were very down-to-earth, even cartoons like Beavis and Butthead and Daria were like this) 7. 1970s (the decade of gritty realism in both TV and film, think All in The Family or The Godfather) Most down-to-earth
TBH I don't know too much about the older decades so don't axe my head off if I get something wrong
