By NYD 2016 I mean the period around NYD 2016, basically give or take like 1-2 months.
By then politics had already gotten divisive, trump was being taken seriously as a politician, streaming took off, 7th gen gaming was completely dead, trop house had already begun and memes were everywhere. 2016 didn't have a strong mid 10s feeling. It has more in common with 2018 than 2014.

so would you say 2010-2013 was early, 2014-2015 was mid and 2016-2019 was late 2010 I would say is in it's own hybrid era between the late 00s and early 10s. 2011-2013 is early. 2014-2015 could be considered mid if we go by NYD 2016 as the start date of the late 10s. Which would make the late 10s 2016-2019. But going by the trump start date then mid would be 2014-2016.

I consider Gamergate to be the event that really triggered the alt-right/SJW division, though SJW culture was already beginning to emerge after Trayvon Martin and the formation of Black Lives Matter. 7th gen gaming was dead in 2015. 2014, Xbox 360 and especially PS3 still had relevance, but by 2015, nobody cared. Streaming was exploding in 2013 after shows like House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black came out on Netflix. As for memes, come on, you can literally trace them to the mid 2000s, but they were already being exploited in ads and pop culture by the mid 2010s. That fucking Wendys Like a Boss commercial I believe came out in 2014.

IMO, I still consider 2016 a transitional year between the mid and late 2010s. Just looking at the memes and internet culture of that year shows it. Some memes, especially from early in the year have a mid 2010s vibe. Pretty much every Vine meme like Damn Daniel, also memes like Dat Boi have a mid 2010s vibe (especially with the usage of the Daniel voice that was everywhere in mid-10s memes). But then you had the emergence of "But edit" memes based off The Nutshack and LazyTown. I know hardly anyone here cares about that kind of shit as much as I do, but it definitely helps explain to me why I feel the way I do about 2016. The shift in terms of gaming to the late 2010s can be attributed to things like the rise of battle royales and hero shooters, and the release of the Nintendo Switch. Overwatch's release did move us in into the late 2010s in that regard, but otherwise, we were still mostly in the mid 2010s (especially for console gaming). Not to mention the iPhone X wasn't released yet. iPhones released between the 5S and 7 have a distinct look that neither earlier iPhones nor later iPhones have, which makes the era feel mid-2010s technologically. Politically it was unquestionably a shift year, with Donald Trump gaining attention, and then he won the election. I think late 2016 was when we entered the late 2010s. That's when Trump won the election, Vine announced its shutdown, and demonization started on YouTube.

Back then was still before alt right/SJW shit flinging became commonplace. The real political controversy era started shortly after trump announced presidency and gay marriage bill was passed in June 2015.g >7th gen gaming was dead in 2015 No, it was almost dead but not fully there yet. Some games were still being made for 7th gen like Dragon Ball Xenoverse and COD: Black Ops 3. I remember gaming on my PS3 up until Summer 2016. There were still plenty of people online in 2015 but in the 2015-2016 school year people stopped logging in. 2016 was when it was basically history. >Streaming was exploding in 2013 after shows like House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black came out on Netflix. I don't recall this at all. Streaming/Netflix started becoming popular and was talked about a lot during the 2015-2016 school year hence why there was that "Netflix and Chill" meme. >As for memes Memes existed before 2015/2016 but late 2015/early 2016 is when memes started to change to resemble the memes of the late 10s with stuff like the hotline bling format and the top text twitter memes. Memes started becoming post ironic like "dat boi". But more importantly this was when memes just started permeating into basically everything. Before, you'd see a meme every now and NYD 2016 and onwards you saw it EVERYWHERE. That was the first time I saw all of my facebook friends posting them whereas before you only saw someone irl post them every once in a while.

To me, 2016 felt like a hybrid of both aesthetics of the mid and late 2010s. BRUH The mid and late 2010s are pretty much identical aesthetically. The only truly distinct era of the 2010s aesthetically is the early 2010s: Frutiger Aero/skeuomorphism.

The late 2010s is different a little bit, not a ton, but it is a little bit ( esp towards 2018/2019) when Balenciaga and oversized clothing took over and Hipster declined as well as Muted color tones ( Ie Yeezy season) Also Gen Z really came into their town in the first few months of 2017, esp with the tide pod craze. Fashion wise there is difference and jump between Q1 2016 and Q4 2019
