Can't be the only one who noticed this this. So many MVs rn have this weird filter over them. Their TERRIBLE CGI hurts my EYES. Also they're just plain bizarre/surreal. Very nonsensical and dream-like, but not in a good way at all. And don't get me started on the unfocused camera lens effect that is super popular now for some reason. I swear to God it just looks so cheap and fake, it's going to age horribly.
It started in 2019 with taylor swift's "ME!" but has only gotten worse and more omnipresent since then
This one is the worst offender so far
Other fugly MVs
Some people say "hurr durr music videos haven't really changed since 2017!1!!" I'm sorry but you must be blind if you can't see the difference.
2017-2019 had bizarre MVs but they were in the minority and had a different aesthetic. Starting in late 2019 is when things got ugly.

Yep, the fucking cutesy color palette of the 2010s I hate it, I miss the darker black and green/blue/purple aesthetic of the mid-late 2000s and very early 2010s.

It's not just that and pastel colors aren't the main culprit here at all, they aren't even that common anymore. Pastel colors are still around as a holdover from the 10s but there's a new color palette emerging rn (I don't know what it's called, but it's mostly yellow/orange/brown/purple) and it just looks so fugly

That Maroon 5 one has to be the ugliest of them all of me. Don't like the song either.

yeah i’ve noticed this too. it’s especially egregious in this video
music videos during the 10s seem kinda plain and minimalist compared to now

The 2010s will be remembered for its minimalism in every regard, ESPECIALLY during the mid 2010s.

We're seeing the aesthetic of early 20s music videos emerging right now. It's like, every music video right now has to have over the top CGI and ambience, weird outfits and dream-like situations and premises. We had a few weird MVs in the late 10s, such as Kanye West's "i love it" and Billie Eillish's "bad guy" but they weren't as ugly looking and over the top as the MVs we're getting right now. It could be that MV makers are desperate to grab people's attention in the age of short entertainment videos like TikTok.

Right, even the weirdest music videos from the 10s weren't as weird and over the top as 2022 music videos. in this regard 2020s music videos remind me of 2000s music videos

some more examples
almost all of doja's videos fit this early 20s aesthetic and her cgi isn’t as bad. still surreal and nonsensical tho

Many of these vids can be blamed on Dave Meyers. He used to be a good music video director in the 2000s with a great use of very absurdist imagery (he's behind "Get Your Freak On", "Stand Up" and "Get the Party Started"). But ever since 2019, he's been increasingly incorporating really ugly, muddy looking CGI in his videos for some reason ("Me!", "Adore You", "Highest in the Room", and so on). "The Sweetest Pie" is also his, and has to be one of the ugliest videos I've ever seen for a pop song.
