In the late 10s you had:
- Avengers - Fortnite - GOT final season - Pokemon go - Fidget spinner craze - Tide pod challenge - Billie Eilish - Despacito
Some people say monoculture died with the advent of social media but it's undeniable that the late 10s had strong monoculture.
Things nowadays still get popular but not to the same degree as they did during the late 10s. There aren't any MEGA music hits like there were in the 10s with songs like gangnam style, hotline bling and despacito. And if you doubt this, check the views of music videos during the 10s and the views music videos released nowadays are getting. Back in the late 10s most music videos got at least 500 million views, many got over a billion. Now, the biggest hits are getting like 300-500 million at most.
Random hit from 2019 - 700M views:
Biggest hit of 2021 - 350M views:
Biggest hit of 2019 - 1.2B views:
This permeates into everything else, not just music. In general, there has been a lack of monoculture for gaming, movies and other things. Yes there are some popular things but there's a difference between garden variety "popular" and actual crazes such as "Pokemania" back in y2k era or Pokemon Go in 2016. There have been no mega pop culture fads like pokemon go or fidget spinners or social media challenges like the ice bucket challenge. Culture is more fragmented nowadays. Whether that's good or bad i'll let you decide. Personally I like it this way. If there is a trend you don't like it's not so in your face constantly. Like with Fortnite for example.

Incorrect false statement NightmareFarm, below will be the receipts to refute your claims. It is quite possible you have not been paying attention to pop culture enough to see the monoculture, that is my guess. As far as movies,
As of April 1, 2022, Spider-Man: No Way Home has grossed $801.7 million in the United States and Canada, and $1.089 billion in other territories for a worldwide total of $1.889 billion. It is the highest-grossing film of 2021, the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time
As of April 3, 2022, The Batman has grossed $349 million in the United States and Canada, and $361.5 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $710.5 million. It is the highest-grossing film of 2022, as well as the highest-grossing serial killer film. The film reached the $500 million-milestone on March 17
As far as music !
( can't argue with Billboard music themselves telling you this)
As for Video Games
(we all know about this crazy that started during the initial phase of the pandemic)

Agreed and the people who think otherwise are missing the point of this thread

Agreed and the people who think otherwise are missing the point of this thread People confuse something that's just merely "regular" popular with global crazes. There hasn't been anything on the scale of things like Pokemon Go or Fidget Spinners or Fortnite this decade. The YT views speaks for itself. On average music videos are literally like 10x less popular than they were a few years ago. Literally. You had so many songs which were well above 1B views in the late 10s and now an artist is lucky when they get over 100M.

I’d say this era isn’t as monocultural as the late 2010s, but still has a degree of monoculture. I think COVID is responsible for this. People aren’t able to go to theaters or concerts. That shared social experience isn’t really something people have experienced in the early 2020s.

It was HUGE in 2020, like, actually world-wide viral.

They can't compare. Among Us is like probably the biggest game this decade so far but even there it pales in comparison to the behemoth that Fortnite was. Animal Crossing: New Horizons was just regular popular, Elden Ring which came out 2 months ago would have been a better example. You have to see the difference between something being popular and something being a cultural phenomenon.

Edit: Nvm, I looked at the stats and wow, that is a lot bigger than I thought at first. I'll give you guys Among Us but generally speaking gaming monoculture is still weak atm. There aren't many big releases nowadays like there were in the Late 10s with Spiderman, God of War, Breath of the Wild, etc.

I don’t think any game will ever be bigger than Minecraft honestly. At the game’s peak in popularity in 2013, it was absolutely inescapable. Still, doesn’t mean Among Us wasn’t big and being talked about everywhere.

I actually think the mid-2010s had a strong gaming monoculture. Minecraft, FNAF, Pokemon Go, and Undertale were everywhere on the internet back then.

Fortnite’s the only game on that list that I can safely say was talked about EVERYWHERE, both school and the internet. Even casual gamers got into the game, and I imagine this game will serve as a gateway for many into the world of gaming in general. Everything else was certainly popular, but not inescapable. In fact, the closest other game that could MAYBE fit that category is one which you have not mentioned, and Fortnite’s biggest rival: PUBG. Even then it wasn’t Fortnite big, but still pretty damn big.
