Near the start of each 21st century decade 00s - Y2K 10s - Doomsday 2012 20s - WW3 scare from Iran Y2K was more “end of the 90s” rather than start of the 2000s. The 2000s LITERALLY began on the date the world was supposed to end. Also, many were scared that COVID would cause societal collapse. As we all know, that did not happen.

The scare was about people thinking the world would end on y2k. COVID isn't really in the same category as the other ones i mentioned since they were false scares that didn't happen whereas COVID actually put us all into lockdowns for over a year.

Y2K is January 1st 2000. As soon as the date passed, the scare ended. So it was only a late 90s thing.

Y2K is January 1st 2000. As soon as the date passed, the scare ended. So it was only a late 90s thing. It still happened near the start of the new decade.
