What were some years that had a horrific event happen right at the start of the year, and killed your hope for the rest of the year? Here are my picks
1991: Operation Desert Storm 2010: The Haiti earthquake 2017: Donald Trump becomes president and the largest single-day protest in US history 2018: Logan Paul suicide forest video 2020: Iran, World War III fears, and Australian wildfires 2021: January 6th riots

I do remember EVERYONE was obsessed with Five Nights at Freddys back then though.

Everyone sucked his dick back then because bush backlash, the great recession at it's peak, him being the first black president and his strong "hope and change" message. IIRC the hope/change poster was the most posted photo on the internet back in 2008 or 2009.

I think backlash against him was partially responsible for Trump becoming president. TBCH I don't really like any of the 21st century presidents, although Trump is BY FAR the worst. Also, conservatives never liked Obama, so to them, they see 2009 as the year things went downhill.

I suppose but conservatives are always going to hate the democratic president and vice versa for liberals.

I think 2022 has started off terribly, perhaps worse than 2021 Everyone sucked his dick back then because bush backlash, the great recession at it's peak, him being the first black president and his strong "hope and change" message. The backlash against left wing ideals (starting in 2015-2016 ) was caused by the european refugee crisis and the disinformation campaign by Russia I'm torn between Trump and Bush because, on one hand, Bush (though i believe he was a puppet of his vice president) started a senseless war in the middle east and fucked the world geopolitically, we still haven't recovered from it. On the other hand, Trump was a Russian puppet manufactured to divide the US and sabotage America's influence over the world (which is a bad or a good thing depending on who you ask) maybe Trump takes the cake

I’ve mentioned this time and time again but I truly believe if Bernie won the Democratic Party instead of Hillary, then Trump would’ve lost the election. It’s not like either of the candidates were good, and the only people who really supported Clinton outside of not voting in Trump were feminists who wanted her to win for no other reason than being a woman, and wanting to have the first female president.

No offense but there's no way Bernie would win the 2016 elections (or any presidental election) his democratic socialist ideology turns off moderate democrats ( so the crushing majority of dems) and on-the-fence voters, and of course the majority of republicans are terrified of socialism or anything communism related. But let's not derail this thread too much...

I’m just saying, if the DNC had a more reliable and less corrupt politician running, one with greatest appeal to centrists rather than just leftists, then they could’ve won the election. But because Hillary sucked, and because of the left-wing backlash at the time, we ended up with what we ended up with.
