The 2010s are only less trashy than the 2000s because the 2010s went for a very clean, minimalistic, corporate vibe. 2010s were the gentrification decade Exactly. I mentioned this in the OP but think rectangular apartment buildings in sharp contrast to the 2000s McMansions.

i think the 2000s were trashy asf tbh. 2010s fashion was definitely an upgrade, and the 2020s gave it a better makeover. Even as a teen I looked back at my 2000s pictures and always thought, wow I look like I put on clothes found next to a dumpster. 2010s have a similar vibe, general optimistic and pastel colors and then there's mumble rap/grunge The 2010s are only less trashy than the 2000s because the 2010s went for a very clean, minimalistic, corporate vibe. Pretty much every aspect of the 2010s reflects this, INCLUDING tech aesthetics, which dropped the maximalist aesthetics of the 2000s in favor of flat design. It's not trashy, but instead, completely lacking of personality whatsoever. Even the ugliest aesthetics of the 90s and 00s at least had personality to them. I always hated that about the 2010s, corporations were so obsessed with making there products look high tech and refined they ended up looking souless. as in too perfect, no uniqueness and neutral colors.

Pretty much every aspect of the 2010s reflects this, INCLUDING tech aesthetics, which dropped the maximalist aesthetics of the 2000s in favor of flat design. I actually think it stems more from companies trying to make their tech products look less like tech products and more like appliances. You can tell from commercials, but a lot of companies seem to be aiming towards families and older people rather than in the 2000s when they were explicitly geared toward young tech-savvy people. The Amazon Echo commercial from 2016 is a perfect example of this

I think this only further shows the connections between the 2010s and 1950s. Both are very family-oriented decades with even tech companies mainly trying to appeal toward families and the everyman.
