A thread to discuss songs which were re-recorded and/or re-released.
Here are two examples I can think of: The video/song above is the original release of "Tomorrow" by Silverchair. This was the version which charted in Australia and would reach #1 in Late 1994. It's more "grungier" and "raw" than the international release of the song, which was recorded just a year after the original version was released. A new music video was even filmed for the international version. This is the original release of "Untouched" by The Veronicas. The Australian release (the one above) has a guitar-solo at the end of the song, yet it's completely absent in the international release of the song.

Okay, there are actually a lot of these across history. Here's a basic start, though...
Switchfoot's "Dare You to Move" was a big pop hit in America during the mid-2000s, but it was actually originally recorded for the group's 2000 album, Learning to Breathe, and was even featured in the cult chick flick, A Walk to Remember, in 2002.
This was the 80s classic "Take on Me" as a-ha's native Norway experienced in 1984, a year before the rerecording conquered the world:
Ditto for Pet Shop Boys' debut single.
Hot Chocolate's signature hit was a global phenomenon in 1975, but it got arguably even more popular when it was remixed into a new jack swing banger 12 years later. The song charted yet again a decade after that, thanks to its prominent use in "The Full Monty," although it was unchanged from the 1987 version.
Stevie Winwood's "Valerie" was only a modest hit upon its original release in 1982. After Winwood entered his commercial peak following "Higher Love," however, he had "Valerie" remixed in 1987, complete with production that was very much of its time. This time, it was a massive success. And speaking of "Valerie..."
Though this was not technically a cover of "Valerie," Steve Winwood himself reportedly rerecorded his vocals, in a different key signature, for this massive soccer hit from the mid-2000s. It missed the American and Canadian charts completely, but almost everywhere else, it steamrolled over its competition, charting at #1 in numerous territories and well within the top 10 of others, still.
Katrina and the Waves had already written and recorded their big 80s hit back when they were an underground new wave band, but since this version already sounded outdated by 1985, it was rerecorded with cleaner drums and crisper guitars when they went mainstream.

Oh god nooooooo, that song takes me straight back to 2008 becasue it's basically what my older sister played over and over again at the time.
