seriously the stranger things 80s intro and the show as a whole show another dark side to the 80s zeitgeist with tons of influences from 80s horror. Aside from that the Halloween 80s aesthetic of the Like of nightmare on elm street were pretty creepy. No wonder so much iconic horror films came out of this decade

The 80s was in my opinion the best decade of horror films. So many classics from that decade. Also, many heavy metal bands during that time were influenced by horror-related stuff, so it was definitely a big part of the zeitgeist. Even Michael Jackson's Thriller song and video was all about horror.

Yeah idk how to explain it but it’s the decade that managed to contrast to soft bright pastels with creepy haunted mansion demeanor. Like nightmare on elm street ish if that makes sense

Also, the 80s color palette wasn't pastels, so much as vibrant cool neon colors like blue, black, and purple.

Those red colors come to mind Freddy Kruger.

I will say pictures from the '80s tend to give off the "liminal" or cursed aura.

The 80s are creepy but the 50s creep me off more
And not just because of the rampant bigotry of the decade
