Unpopular opinion: 2018 is not really a part of the current pop cultural era It started in 2019 2018 is kind of weird in the middle. Can't say if it feels more connected to 2016 or 2020 (ignoring the pandemic ofc). 2019 is def more like now then 2016 even with the pandemic. 2019 is closer to 2016 imo. Trump was president(he wasn't president in 2016 but it was a precursor because the election) and it's pre-COVID. Pop culturally its about half half where 20s artists were blowing up and tiktok was popular but 2010s stuff like trap rap, star wars sequels, avengers and GOT were still big that year.

Like half the hits back then were trap rap.

The first year that has connections to today is 2020. Anything before 2020 is like a different world.
