I agree, Coffs Harbour is a nice place. I've traveled to the city on three previous occasions and I've always enjoyed it. You might not have had a chance to do too much (since you were only there for one day), but did you go to the Big Banana while you were there?

Absolutely! I wish I could live in Tasmania. I've actually been looking at property prices while I've been down here and I can't believe how affordable the prices are. You can buy a new block of land in Port Sorrel for only $99,000. Back in Wollongong, the land would be worth around $600K-$700K. I think I will move down to Tassie one day in the future. I could easily live here and my parents & grandparents have stated that they could as well. The weather has been great. It's such a relief to experience nice early-mid 20 temperatures, instead of the 30C+ temperatures back at home. Admittedly, I haven't been up to much while I have been down here. I've pretty much traveled to all of the places to see and do. I went to Penny Royals in Launceston a few days ago, for the first time. Even though, I only ended up having lunch there, because none of the attractions appealed to me (plus, they were too expensive). I've traveled to Waratah, Sheffield, Tullah and Penguin as well.

I was down in Tasmania for a week in March last year, in which I went by my own car via the Spirit of Tasmania (overnight), and visited Cradle Mountain, Strahan (including a cruise around Macquarie Harbour & into Gordon River), Lake St Clair, Hobart & Launceston. The scenery on the West Coast of Tasmania reminds me a bit of NZ's South Island. I also went through Sheffield & also stopped for lunch at Tullah on my first day in Tasmania. And yes, I'm with you on wishing to live in Tasmania, and my parents wouldn't mind living there too, especially with much more affordable property prices & much cooler summers than in most parts of the mainland, particularly when compared to Campbelltown & the Macarthur region (on both counts). After the hot summers I've been experiencing of late, I'm really looking forward to be going over to the South Island of NZ in two weeks, where the weather should be much cooler than back home, pretty much like in Tasmania.

Sounds like you had a good trip. I agree that the scenery on the West Coast of Tasmania is very picturesque. Although, i'm not sure if I would want to live in the West Coast. A family relative of mine once lived in the town of Waratah (a small town on the West Coast) and the shopping/groceries had to be done in Burnie, which was 66 kilometres away. The West Coast is simply too remote for my liking. I've been traveling down to Tasmania each January since 2016 and every year, I have gone on the day-sailing of the Spirit of Tasmania. I would definitely recommend going over on the day-sailing. It's a much nicer experience and the Strait generally isn't as rough. I'm not sure what the overnight trip was like for you, but I went over on an overnight trip six years ago and it wasn't an enjoyable experience at all. Yep, that's understandable. Just out of curiosity, if you had the option of moving down to Tasmania, what part of the state would you choose to live in? I would personally choose to live on the North-West coast (around Burnie-Devonport) or in the Hobart area. I suppose you would also need to factor in the jobs that are available in the area. I hope you have a good time over on the South Island of NZ. I haven't traveled to New Zealand before, although the South Island seems like it is a really nice place!

Sounds like you had a good trip. Yes, I did have a good trip, thanks for asking. I agree with you. I wouldn't live on the West Coast either for the same reason as yours. As I went in March on a Monday evening on the way to Tasmania & on a Tuesday evening on the way back, doing the overnight sail was the only option, plus it saves on the cost of paying extra for accommodation in both Melbourne & Devonport. For the record, I didn't really have the best night's sleep whilst travelling on the Spirit. The next time I go down to Tasmania, I'm planning to travel down the East Coast, which includes St Helens, the Bay of Fires, Coles Bay & Freycinet National Park. I like the Hobart area the best, as it's bigger & is scenically more interesting. The Launceston area would come 2nd for me. I can't comment very much on the North-West coast, as I've only really been to Devonport to get off & on the Spirit, but from reading the weather stats, its climate is very pleasant, in which days above 30°C are quite rare, which is unheard of in the mainland. Thanks. This will be my first trip anywhere outside of Australia & I'm looking forward to it.

That’s one of the main reasons I decided to make a trip to Coffs. I was pleasantly surprised how well they have kept the attraction still relevant. Tourists were everywhere with loads of things to see and do apart from just the “Big Banana” itself. Compare this to the “Big Pineapple” up in Qld which has seemingly seen better days with very few tourists and looking quite neglected.

I don't think it should be turned into a movie either. If the Tourism Australia ad had not been produced, most people wouldn't be interested in seeing a reboot of the Crocodile Dundee franchise.

I've just returned from a week-long trip to the Queenstown/Wanaka region of NZ's South Island, which is a very beautiful part of the world with high-rise mountains & lakes. It also included a full-day trip to Milford Sound, which is said to be the "8th Wonder of the World", which is little wonder, as it was a very spectacular sight to see. I think it's much more beautiful than Tasmania (which could sort of be a 'mini-NZ' within Australia), though having said that, the latter place is still very nice.

Good to hear that you had a nice trip! Queenstown does seem like a nice place. It's interesting that you should mention that. I have always felt as though Tasmania is a "country" in it's own right and in terms of overall aesthetics and way of life, it does feel quite different from the mainland.
