This is something that I have thought about from time to time, so I decided to create a thread based on it. Has anyone else ever wondered how deceased musicians/artists might view the world today if they were still alive?
For instance, I wonder how John Lennon would view the world today, if he wasn't murdered at the age of 40 back in 1980? It would be interesting to know what he would have thought of the internet and Donald Trump being President of the United States. It makes you wonder. Another example of this topic would be Kurt Cobain. It makes you wonder what he would think of the current state of music and more specifically, the current state of rock music. Kurt Cobain would have been the same age as my Dad is he was alive today.

Here are a few I have thoughts on:
* Elvis Presley - Had the King survived past 1977, he may have had an even more illustrious career than he already enjoyed. Considering his UK counterpart, Cliff Richard, was still a hitmaker coming into the new millennium, I have a strong impression Elvis would have been able to score hits as late as the 2000s. I would’ve been particularly fascinated to hear what his work and style would’ve been like in the 1980s, considering the various ways ofher classic rockers adapted to the MTV Generation.
* 2Pac - Well, not only would the West Coast have survived slightly better in the hip hop world in the late ‘90s and beyond, we may have witnessed a continually fascinating career by one of the single most complex and cosmopolitan figures in rap history, had his unknown assassin not gunned him down in Las Vegas.

In regards to Elvis Presley, I completely agree with the points you raised. In fact, he even had a successful hit in the form of the "A Little Less Conversation" remix, which topped the charts in many countries around the world back in 2002. To be honest, had he survived past 1977, I don't think he would have changed his work/style too drastically. He may have composed songs which would have been radio-friendly to MTV and the 1980s in general, but I personally don't believe he would have strayed too far into unfamiliar territory. On that last point, just out of curiosity, do you believe the current state of hip-hop (in the mainstream) would be different, had 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G survived into the 21st Century? I personally believe the two would have continued to achieve successful hits in the Late '90s and Early 2000s, even if the gangsta-rap movement had fallen out of favour. I also believe snap rap would have taken on a different form.

I watched "Montage of Heck" last night, a documentary based on the life of Kurt Cobain. It was really interesting viewing, because the documentary was told as if it was from Kurt's perspective. I don't really agree with the extent to which they used private journals and recordings, however. Watching the documentary, only emphasised how tragic it is that he took his own life at the age of 27.
