Late 2004 The shift from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0, and the rise of social media platforms such as MySpace completely changed society as we know it. Also around this time, digital cameras replaced film cameras as the standard for taking pictures. Cell phones like the Motorola Razr and T-Mobile Sidekick became the new standard for mobile phones.

There wasn't any shift in late 2004. Every single shift that happened in Late 2004 - Myspace blows up Q4 and becomes mainstream- Transition from Dial up to DSL- Ashlee Simpson becomes the most popular singer in America- Ashlee Simpson also ruins here career in a matter of weeks with the SNL fiasco- Debut of Ryan Cabbrrea - Debut of Ciara ( she did not even make it to radio until late Summer 2004)- Lindsay Lohan becomes the most popular actress in Hollywood at the time- Emo blows up Q4 2004 - MCR blows up with the I am not okay video on MTV constantly- Nintendo DS debuts Q4 and is a hit- Snick ends on Nick- Amy Poehler succeeds Jimmy Fallon as Tina Fey's co-anchor of NBC's Saturday Night Live- CNN's financial news channel, CNNfn, is ended.- Ghost Hunters debuts on Sci Fi- SpongeBob Square pants is announced as being Revived
We saw a new generation of artists take over ( even if they didn't last more than 2 years) - -

We saw a new generation of artists take over ( even if they didn't last more than 2 years) - - You can pick any year of any decade and call it a shift since things always change continually. But the fact is 2004 was one of the most consistent years of the decade.

Kind of, once her music came out in late 04 it propelled her Lindsay Lohan made music in 2003, just not a full-length album but she did songs for Disney movies. Her album in 2004 was a failure, no one listened to her. She definitely didn't blow up in 2004.

I don't see any of these things as a significant shift. 2006 definitely takes the cake.

That song Rumors also got massive airplay on Kiss at the time. You are forgetting she was with one of the most popular sitcom actors @ the time

2005 was a bigger. 2003 was an even bigger shift. 2006 was an even even bigger shift. 2004 is the second most unchangeful year of the 2000s after 2002.
