Interesting, I didn't know that was a shortcut. It's my first time driving solo to Bowral I was basically following the GPS and it took me through that shortcut. I think it's about 5 minutes quicker, because it completely cuts off Robertson and it's a more direct route than what the Illawarra Highway is (which is the way most people go to drive to Bowral). Also, very few people actually know about the shortcut route, so there's hardly any traffic on it. I only became aware of the shortcut sometime last year, to be honest. I could remember noticing in the past that there was a road called "Tourist Road" which came out near Bowral, but I wasn't sure if it was the road of the same name just past Robertson. So one day, I decided to turn-off onto it when I was going for a drive and luckily enough, it turned out to be the same road. Would have been pretty bad if it went to the middle of nowhere. So many motorbike groups stop there after going up Macquarie Pass and I just think, "why?" People rave about their pies as if they were the best thing since sliced bread. It's ridiculous.

The traffic in the Illawarra, the day after the Lockdown restrictions eased.
I cannot believe the Southbound traffic on the Princes Motorway (M1), people we're clearly eager to head to the South Coast.

A dashcam video of Crown Street in Wollongong that I filmed last Friday. The traffic in the Illawarra, the day after the Lockdown restrictions eased. I cannot believe the Southbound traffic on the Princes Motorway (M1), people we're clearly eager to head to the South Coast. It doesn't surprise me. As someone who lives around that area, it's absolute hell having to deal with the traffic along the Princes Highway on a regular basis. That's part of the reason as to why I didn't want restrictions to be relaxed.

Yeah, you can definitely tell people have had enough of been stuck at home for the past couple of months. I noticed the traffic is starting to get heavy again the past fortnight or so in both mornings and afternoons. Was quite nice having to travel for short periods with very few out and about on the roads.

NorthConnex (Northern Entry via M1 Pacific Motorway), M2 and M7 Motorway: Interesting video! I think the new NorthConnex is the longest road tunnel in Australia?

I think the new NorthConnex is the longest road tunnel in Australia? It's about the same length as the M5 tunnel (9km).

It's a shame we don't have this type of road tunnel here (one is definitely needed but the chances of that ever happening is near zero). I have used the Sydney one and I actually find driving through them interesting, weirdly enough.

We don't have any tunnels here in Wollongong either, so they're always a bit of a novelty for me too whenever I go through one in Sydney. I can remember going on a school excursion to Taronga Zoo when I was in Year 7 and when we had to go through a road tunnel that goes underneath the airport, everyone on the bus was saying how cool it was to be in it.

I have used some of Melbourne's on my travels (Burnley and Domain, CityLink). Yeah, I bet! There has been discussions for one (along with a bypass and better public transport options) in Hobart for years to help ease or move traffic around from the congested city roads. Though, can't see it happening as threre's no political vote buying and such in it unfortunately.
