The Hunger Games is a dystopian film. It's its own thing. This film, plus Spider-Man highlights the main reason why there weren't many teen flicks in the 2010s, which was that the decade was very escapism and speculative fiction oriented, and thusly, simple teen comedies or teen dramas were unpopular in the decade. Ehh it was a teen movie none the less, that who it was marketed to anyways. It was targeted to teens, and it stars teens, but to be honest, it's about as much of a teen flick as Twilight is. That was also targeted to teens. That was also hugely popular among teenage girls. But it's not in the same category as The Breakfast Club, American Pie, or Mean Girls. I'm not saying every teen movie has to take place at a school, but teen movies generally have to have realistic settings. And not dystopian fiction, superheroes, or cringy vampire romance.

Those are some good ones. I don't know which will be regarded as the definitive teen film of the 2010s. I don’t think our generation has decided yet since the decade ended not so long ago to put things in retrospective, Mean Girls became a hit in late 2004 ( when the DVD came out, Blockbuster promoted the ish out of it) massive watercooler talk, Clueless didn't become a hit either until it's VHS release in late 95/early 96 ish, but even then it didn't get it's status until maybe 2000. Mean Girls in it's own year already became iconic. 2010s pretty much had nothing that stood out slice of life wise. Duff was a horrible attempt and trying to make a Mean Girls type movie and ended up being a fart in church.

I think because how technology is set up nowadays, it will take longer for the 2010s to have a movie that the public has decided defined the decade. Teen movies are generally pretty vapid for the most part even clueless. It takes time for people to feel nostalgic for easier times like when they were in high school and things that remind them of it.

Like the 2000s babies on tik Tok who dress and act like they’re in a 2000s movie.

If you had to ask me PERSONALLY about what 2010s teen movie affected me the most, it would be KICK ASS. But that movie is not talked about these days.. Even though it is an "iconic teen movie"..

There are none. That's how badly movies in the 2010s sucked. This, yes we had good stuff like Endgame and whatnot, but 2010s was mostly either Superhero movies or Dystopians. There was 0% slice of life movies that got big like there was in the 2000s and 90s.

I don't think people notice the era they're in when they're living it. 2010s movies just haven't aged yet to the point where people are looking at them like family home videos. The decade is just to recent and seems so not long ago. Clueless/Mean Girls didn't become a pop culture icon overnight.

The only memorable movies from the 2010s are movies that felt like 2000s movies such as Kick Ass and Date Night. And that's pretty sad.
