Do you believe celebrity idolisation is a good thing or does it only do more harm to our mental and physical well-being?
I have a mixed opinion when it comes to celebrity idolisation. On one hand, I believe it can be very inspiring and beneficial to our own lives, especially if the idolised celebrity is a genuinely good person and has done good deeds. For instance, I could see why someone would idolise Leonardo DiCaprio, due to his environmental work and his views on climate change.
On the other hand, the Kardashions aren't a group of celebrities who should be idolised at all. What good have they done?

It does far more harm than good.
Basically, you are destroying your own identity by trying to be someone that you are not.

It’s a positive activity if through the celebrity in question you can probe your own identity and subsequently have a firmer and more confident grasp on yourself. This is exactly how Rachel Stevens became a surprisingly healthy role model to me personally, as it was through her example that I was better able to affirm both my personal style without shyness, as well as how to handle my own state of mind.
Celebrity idolization is negative, however, if you are obsessed to the point where you become delusional about your practical opportunities and behaviour, as well as perpetually envious and at complete and incessant unease with your own qualities. It doesn’t matter whom you’re heaping praise upon, if you’re alienating yourself without a reasonable destination, you should probably loosen up a bit over your personal expectations.

I think it purely depends on the extent in which you base your life off the celebrity, like #Infinity mentioned. As for myself, I personally don't idolize anyone, because I feel as though they will never truly connect with me and my life experiences. Why should I worship someone who has millions of dollars and is an industry icon? I can't relate with them in any way.

Yeah the Kardashians haven't done any good, they're terrible role models.

...That's why I heavily doubt that "fangirl" types actually do idolize the people they fangirl about and are not projecting at all.

As long as you keep it in perspective and stay grounded, it can be a good thing. For the hero themself, knowing someone idolises them can inspire them to lead a worthy life.
There is a female singer I greatly admire. I love her voice, music and image. I have even legally changed my forename to hers (mainly because I hate the one inflicted on me at birth). She is a genuinely good person and her example encourages me to be likewise.
