Drake entering the 2020s. Why I don't know, but I've got a hunch that Drake has already passed the peak in his popularity and he will start to lose relevancy over the next few years. I don't see how he can top "God's Plan", especially considering how many weeks it spent at the top of the charts. I'm honestly starting to lose faith in Camila's longevity because her new, post-"Señorita" singles haven't done that well so far. I was predicting "Liar" might peak decently after "Señorita" goes away, but it still can't crack the American top 40.

It's a worrying sign for her going forward because it's not as if her name hasn't garnered enough attention in the press. She's coming off the back of a mega-hit single in the form of her collaboration with Shawn Mendes and her 2018 singles were arguably just as successful, particularly "Havana". Camila's Latino-pop sound simply isn't resonating with current Top-40 audiences so it seems. I can't say that i'm surprised though; especially at a time where an artist like Billie Eilish can go onto to define the music scene in such a huge way.

Revisiting this, Harry Styles has honestly just had a disappointing run as a lone artist thus far. For how big he was several years ago. Tbh I have even less of an idea now who the major artists will be moving forward. I wonder if Shawn Mendes can keep up his momentum for a bit longer. Well, this aged quite well.

I understand it's still too early to know who will be the defining artists of the next decade, but so far we have some out there who either could or will be substantial candidates. I can see Khalid, Alessia Cara, Logic, Camila Cabello, Halsey, SZA, and one of the former One Direction members as some to be defining music in the next era. They all seem to have the potential to ride the current wave of the mainstream right now and continue to dominate into the future. What do you all think and are there any others who could also be significant in the future as well? Alessia Cara was already irrelevant when this was written lol

I would say Billie Eilish but she may already be cancelled. I would also say Juice Wrld but it's so unfortunate he passed away. I don't know, some things were supposed to happen but everything got thrown off.

The main popular artists of the 2020s so far imo:
- lil nas x - dua lipa - doja cat - harry styles - olivia rodrigo - billie eillish - megan thee stallion
honorable mentions (these artists are culturally tied to the early 20s but not the most popular or representative): - jack harlow - saweetie - lizzo - the kid leroy - rod wave - pop smoke (would be bigger if he was still living)
All the artists mentioned are most likely to be associated with the early 20s music scene, even if they started in the late 10s like dua lipa or billie eillish. billie may not be on the same level of popularity as in 2019 but her whole gen z aesthetic kinda set the templet for what would become early 20s/early z youth culture and is more likely to be associated with that than the late 10s

Juice Wrld would have been the defining rap artist of the 2020s if he didn't pass away. It's so sad what happened. At least he put out some great timeless hits before he died.

Agreed. While he did have his rise in popularity back in the 2010s, he was dominant in 2020 in terms of streaming/sales units with "Blinding Lights" and After Hours.

Him and Ariana Grande are multi-decade artists kinda like rihanna or janet jackson

Michael Jackson was a multi decade artist and yet everyone associates with the 80s first and foremost Same thing for madonna

Such as Green Day for the 90s and 00s, or Kanye West for the 00s and 10s.
