1980's

I like 80's and 90's hip hop and rock. I like back in black and eye of the tiger. :-)

This isn't to say that 80's music is better, but I feel as if 80's music is more upbeat and danceable, whereas 90's is kind of like a bit more "serious" but still catchy. For pop music, I prefer the 80's, for hip-hop, I prefer the 90's. I don't really like rock music as it's not really my cup of tea.

I equally like both depending on the music genres.

I personally never heard a lot of people talking about how good the 80's were for rock music until now. I think the 70's were better IMO.

I will say the early-mid 80s were a great time for rock thanks to the continuation of 70s styles like New Wave, Post-Punk and Punk Rock in general actually. The late 80s were so godawful for mainstream rock though, that the alternative scene boomed in the underground and saw the births of a lot of new styles of alt rock, including Grunge.

This 1982 synthpop song was played on the music countdown show I watched on TV earlier today. I think this song is a perfect example of why '80s music leaves people quite divided. Many people absolutely adore '80s music, while others display a strong hostility towards it. Honestly, if I had of been alive at the time, I could see myself perceiving the 1980s in the same way that I do with the 2010s; being dissatisfied with the homogeneity of the Top-40 charts. There would be a fair few songs which I would like, but the over-saturation of gated-drums and synths in many of the Top-40 hits at the time would have irritated me after a while.
