I actually don't think I have ever listened to that song before. Not sure why, but it reminds me a bit of "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins. I was just at an 80s music festival up in Huntington Beach today, and they played this song more than once in-between the performances. I agree it sounds a lot like "Danger Zone", thanks to its similar feel and shared key, however it came out slightly sooner, though it was popular roughly at the same time, since Back to School was in theaters simultaneously with Top Gun. That's interesting to hear! Maybe "It's a Dead Man's Party" might only be popular in the US? Like I mentioned, I can't say that I have ever actually listened to the song before, although I guess it's possible that it may have been played at '80s-themed events and I simply haven't recognized it. Back to School did perform well at the box-office, so that's most likely the case.

Perhaps Back to School wasn't as popular in Australia as it was over here? Its main draw was that it starred an American stand-up, so it could have just appealed a bit more to domestic audiences.

According to the Wikipedia article, the movie grossed $108,634,920 worldwide, so it probably was quite popular at the time of it's release here as well. I'd image that it has most likely been played at '80s-themed festivals and events. I've never actually gone to an '80s-themed festival before, so I can't say if it has or not from personal experience.
