I left school more than 40 years ago so none of this resonates with me!

2012 was our olympic year. I Loved it! Same with 2013. I agree with 2012 (the best year of my life), but 2013 was awful. Terrible songs, disappointing video games and movies, and it was awful for my personal life. It was really the first bad year for me.

Before that, it was still somewhat niche and Myspace was the most popular social media site.

When did MySpace really die out in popularity? I'd say around 2010 when it just faded into obscurity. Facebook became popular in March 2007, Look at some pages on your facebook & you will see the sign up date as 2007. Most brand pages signed up in 2007, it still did not overtake Myspace yet, Around 2008 it got a huge influx of users and passed Myspace just barely in user sign ups. Myspace held on until early 2010, Myspace was still VERY popular in 2009, When Myspace changed their layout to say My________ and it was all black and the website took on this minimalist form, that is when everyone left.

I would say that Late 2009/Early 2010 was the period of time when Myspace had faded into obscurity. It was definitely an after thought by 2011, in any case. I know a lot of people like to pinpoint 2008 as the year Facebook had overtook Myspace in popularity, but as I remember it, Myspace was actually on par with Facebook in terms of overall popularity and relevancy. The former was still a very popular site for teens at the time. Back in 2008, there was actually a story which made national headlines here in Australia about a 16 year old kid who invited hundreds of people on Myspace to have a party at his house (while his parents were gone) and after the party, his parents were fined $20,000 in damages. Here's a video of it in case you're interested. It's pretty funny to watch, in retrospect, because it's such a product of it's time.

I actually changed my mind about Late 2018 being the end of the Core 2010s, I feel like its Spring 2019 because there were a fair amount of Mid/Late 2010s culture still hanging on in Late 2018/Early 2019.
