A thread to discuss songs which you mistakenly thought were released by a different artist/band.
I've always thought that "Once in a Lifetime" was a David Bowie song, not a song by Talking Heads. The sad thing is, I only discovered that it wasn't the case a few minutes ago. I feel like an idiot.

I thought this was a Maroon 5 song when I first heard it because it was a sort of rock-soul hybrid with a nasal, high-pitched male falsetto voice.

When I was younger and first heard this I thought it was sung entirely by a male artist. Boy was I wrong when I realised this! Obviously, this is because she has a unique “contralto voice” which threw me completely off at that age.

I probably would have thought the same thing.

I only found out that this was a Cheap Trick song a few months ago. I've heard it so many times over the years, but I never knew who the band were. To me, it sounds like a typical '70s Australian pub-rock song, even though it was actually released in 1982. I'm really not surprised that it was only ever a hit in Australia (it peaked at #2 here). It just sounds Australian, even though it's obviously not.

Millions of people still think Bob Marley sang this when he was dead around the release! Note that he died in 1981, and that the song was originally released in 1987 by INNER CIRCLE (a Jamaican band who sing in English). Also note this is the theme to COPS.
