I'm not sure if it's just the fact that the Late 2000s are still somewhat recent or if the Global Financial Crisis has influenced people's perception of the era, but I've noticed that a lot of people generally aren't too appreciative of the Late 2000s as they are with the Early and even the Mid 2000s. I don't get it. I'm personally not a fan of a lot of the pop culture from the time either, but the Late 2000s really aren't as bad as a lot of people make them out to be.
I'm interested in hearing other people's opinions on it. Do you dislike the Late 2000s? If so, why is that the case?

I don't honestly despise the late 2000s that much, I just think they were a mostly underwhelming time for music in particular in the US, as well as the UK to a smaller extent. YouTube, however, felt groundbreaking and exciting at the time because it was still new and produced a lot of content that I hadn't been used to seeing beforehand. The technological balance was still pretty solid; even though social media was growing in popularity, it hadn't swallowed up other aspects of the Internet completely yet.

Internet culture was pretty good during this time. It's not that's I don't like the era, it's just imo it wasn't quite as good as the mid 2000s and especially not the early 2000s. Overall, I feel as though it was just a bit drab, although maybe it being too recent does play a part in people not liking it as much. Just things like smartphones or social media even existing makes it feel a lot different from the early years of the decade.

I don't get how someone can like the mid-2000s but hate the late 2000s, since they were largely the same except the latter had better technology (maybe that's why they hate it? ). Things didn't really start to change until the very end.

Things didn't really start to change until the very end. It's funny because a lot of people say how much they like the 2000's, yet they're also the ones who say "everything after 2006 or 2007 sucks" or something. If you loved the early-mid 2000's but don't like the late 2000's, then you really don't like the "2000's"

You were way too young to have experienced the early or mid 2000s and debate about it. IMO the only part of the 2000s you would be able to debate about would be 2008-09.

Couldn't disagree more with this. Someone born in 2000 was absolutely old enough to remember the mid-late 2000's. I was born in 2002 and remember 2006 onwards, so I have no idea where you're getting this information from.

Umm....I'm not sure about you (maybe you have a really bad memory) but I can clearly remember well before I was 8 years old.

Oh sorry my bad, I totally misread what you posted. Yes you was old enough to experience the mid/late 2000s, I just accidentally read it as something else. Senpai forgive me!

The only thing I don't like about the late 2000's is the drop in quality television shows(at least here in the US). Other than that I think the late 2000's were great when it came to the internet and video games.

I personally thought the Late 2000s were a better era than the Mid 2000s. (Cue late 2006 shiftists) Those threads are ridiculous. I can't believe some people can become so invested in debating about the "Late 2006" shift.

Yes, they are. While Bush Jr was still president and the financial crisis was ongoing throughout that time, the era had good pop culture especially the diversity. I'm aware that snap still dominated, but there were also artists such as Kanye, Jay-Z, Eminem, Lupe, etc who didn't participate in that trend. R&B, the variations of rock and general pop music were additionally good.
I agree with that video games and internet were definitely great during that time

I must admit, i'm very surprised that the Late 2000s haven't yet received more attention/praise, especially seeing as though we are only 16 months away from the start of the 2020s. The Late 2000s are noticeably outdated now. I mean, 2007 is almost twelve years ago!

The Late 2000s are noticeably outdated now. I mean, 2007 is almost twelve years ago! Well, I will say most of the 90s nostalgia this decade also came from mostly the early-mid part, with the late part only picking up lately. Especially in the early-2010s it was all about Nirvana, Nirvana and Gangsta Rap, and Nirvana while late-90s were mostly ignored because they were technically still a little too recent and weren't maybe as exotic to look back at as the early-mid 90s were (which is something they completely are now). I can see the same happening for the 2000s.
