I remember a couple of years ago in the 2010s when people used to act like the decade was still relevant in daily life and how we weren’t so far removed as a society. The politics were still similar, after all Obama had just been elected in 2009 and the electro pop beat still felt like an extension of the later half of the era until nostalgia forums came to the slow realization we weren’t in the late 2000s anymore. Now in 2022, do we finally have a more clear view of what the 2000s were as a decade to finally understand it and accept them as they’re own unique decade.

I think at this point, people are acknowledging 2000s as it’s own decade with its own style and flavor. About time though.

Yeah, people used to say that it was never gonna happen because things have gotten stagnant since the decade ended and music has been the same since 2009 or the late 2000s during the 2010s that now the passage of time proves just how wrong that was.

all I'm gonna say is that we're not as removed from the 00s in 2022 as the 90s were removed from the 70s by 1992

No it's clear to me that the difference between 1979 and 1992 is bigger than the difference between 2009 and 2022.

No it was just a fact, what makes 1992 more different then 1979 the 2009 and 2022 ? Just pointing out the reality of it all, maybe no one feels that way because we’re just not there yet. We can’t see the clear differences between either eras yet.

I don't think so to be honest. It's never gonna be the same as it was in the 20th century. Technology has changed it where you can have access to any decade by a click of a button that's why it won't feel as removed since YouTube came out in the 2000s along with other social media sites people still use today as well as smartphones.
For me personally though it does feel removed since I was a kid then. But on the whole I don't think people see it that way or ever will at least not compared to the 20th century. There is some nostalgia for it though.
