This has been such a problem on instagram. It seems like some people think Y2K refers to the 2000's in general, which might be okay if they're a young teen but this is even coming from big accounts, brands, etc. that should know better.

Exactly, like ok I can see Vaio computers ( which whole aesthetic is futuristic for the early 2000s) but thats about it really. Living in 2003 in HS felt nothing Y2K at all. And the thing that really makes me scream is people saying 2004!!!! LOL like whutttttttttt. Revisionist history at it's finest.

i’ve even seen some people think early 2010’s electropop was Y2K OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG yeah I noticed some the people who think 03 and 04 were Y2K were not even alive when 2006 kicked off, this is really messing with peoples perception of the decade. And I swear if I saw someone say electropop was y2k I would go on a full 4 paragraph essay rant.

2003 is the beginning of the core 2000s. McBling aesthetics dominated the year.

2003 is the beginning of the core 2000s. McBling aesthetics dominated the year. There were some hints of it in 2001, people seem to think Y2K was still going on in 2003 in the states for some reason. A sony Vaio computer and maybe 2 commercials with fonts does not mean we were still in the Y2K era lol Teen pop was dead here as well. But I agree with u

But I agree with u I think some of those people didn’t really have a name for that aesthetic, that’s probably why. The mid 2000s are starting to become more nostalgic nowadays. 2003 feels like the true beginning of it since that’s when the simple life premiered with Paris Hilton. I remember thinking this era was trashier and cheap than the era that came before it, which is ironic since Y2K always looked futuristic and clean.

I agree with this as well it just personally seemed like to me the true millennium period felt 1999-2003,I also feel that the early 00s was very millennium in a way we're the early 00s spanned through it which to me is 2001-summer 2004
