IMO y2k is 1999-2003 in general Y2K in general is an anticipation for the new millennium. 1997-2001ish to be exact. Pretty much, it’s more of a late 90s thing. Once the excitement ended, Y2K was over.

i agree. definitely 1997-2001 2001 is pushing too. The last year that really has a Y2K energy is 2000. I think the Y2K era is either 1996-2000 or 1997-2001. People were already talking about as far back as 1996

People were already talking about as far back as 1996 Y2K era definitely lasted going into 2001, however GP were getting increasing frustrated as every month passed. There were several factors that led to this. 1) The Final Straw of Teen Pop acceptance ( you now had PEPSI ads on TV being Teen Pop Music videos) 2) Teen Pop acts oversaturating shows like The Simpsons 3) Corporate Y2KBasically ads on TV and IRL looked like GTA parody ads with their Y2K fonts, people were sick of it. Also you had stuff like the PsOne slim and just gave off this sterile fake vibe. I remember vividly the vibe fell of during Summer camp 2001, around July. It became very obvious to everyone there. I also remember WWF ( which was a hot Y2K trend) was getting the "ugh The WcW Invasion is stupid you still watch that crap?"

Imo, 1999/2000 was the very peak of the Y2K era. 2001-2003 still had some lingering effects, particularly when it came to fashion. But when it came to music, things were transitioning away from the Y2K era to the 00s.

Then in 1998, it was in full force, and in 1999/2000 it was at its peak. 2001-2003 were the waning years, where it was still lingering, but you can tell it was fading away.
