I mean you hear so much love for 2004 but not really for 2005. How come? I still think 2005 was a classic 2000s year and a pretty kick ass year as well. Now if we were talking about 2006 then I would agree that's when things started to suck.

Yes, it is.
I think the real reason for 2005 being underappreciated is just the fact that it's one hugely mixed bag. I'm nostalgic for it too, but in saying that, I wouldn't say that it was a great year. I personally find a lot of the trends, aesthetics etc. from back then to either be cheesy or cringey in retrospect. It's just really inconsistent. There's some genuinely great albums and movie releases which have stood the test of time, like System of a Down's double-albums, "Sin City", "Madagascar" etc.
However, a lot of the pop culture from back then really hasn't aged well at all. The biggest problem with many of the trends from 2005 is that they just don't have any sort of longevity or general appeal. Everything and everyone was trying to be 'edgy', and I think that's really dated the year in retrospect. There was also that 'trashiness' element to many of the trends of the time. That whole "McBling", excess culture just wouldn't cut it today, especially with the cost-of-living crisis that's going on right now.
It is surprising though that you don't see more nostalgia for 2005 considering it's almost twenty years ago. Those of us who were kids back then are all in our mid-late 20s now, so you would think sites like Reddit, YouTube etc. would be flooded with nostalgia posts for the songs, movies etc. from back then.
