I was originally going to base this thread solely on the question I ask below, however I decided that this can be a thread for discussing game consoles sold in stores, in general. Just out of curiosity, when did PS2 consoles/games stopped being sold in stores overseas? Down here, PS2 consoles/games were generally still sold in stores until the PS4 was released (so until about Late 2013/Early 2014), but I figured that it probably wasn't the case in other countries around the world.

Around the same time. PS2 games were still being made concurrently with the PS3 until the PS4 was out. In fact, the PS2 here wasn't discontinued until early 2013.

Gamestop sells used inventory from the previous generation, so when the PS3 was the current console, they still sold PS2 inventory. They produced the PS2 systems up until January 4th, 2013, on my birthday.
I was in a Walmart about a year ago, and while they weren't selling PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles anymore, they were still selling a hand full of BRAND NEW games from those consoles. Even more recently, I saw some Xbox 360 copies of BRAND NEW Tomb Raider in Family Dollar for 8 bucks. Now, I didn't pick those up because I already own the game anyways.
Not only that, but in December 2015, I even saw a BRAND NEW copy of Singstar for PS2. That was the only piece of PS2 inventory in the Walmart.
These are most likely old pieces of leftover 6th/7th gen inventory that they slowly get rid of.
I remember them selling Gamecube at Walmart inventory up until 2007 or 2008. Though, there was a Gamestop right across the street that still sold used Gamecube inventory up until 2012, when the Wii U was coming out.
