What do you think of the new hashtag, which encourages people to delete their Facebook accounts? I think it's a bit ridiculous, to be honest. Millions of people use Facebook worldwide, do they really expect everyone just to suddenly stop using it?

Why is it trending?

I think it's because Facebook has access to millions of people's personal information and their data. I'm not really sure what the story behind it is, but I think people's personal information has been misused or exploited.

Honestly, I think Facebook is great. It's a great way to keep in touch with friends, family, loved ones, etc without actually interacting with each other.
More often than not, I would rather not engage in conversation unless I'm already very close to someone. And sometimes you just wanna check up on someone and make sure they're okay or you wonder what they're up to, but you don't have the energy for small talk or full on conversations. And Facebook feeds and timelines really help with that.
Of course, I enjoy personally keeping tabs on my best friends and we have our own discord server where we update each other and talk all the time, but for other friends who I don't talk to all the time, as well as family and old school mates, Facebook is a really good platform.
It's also well known for connecting people with old friends and family.
Edit: Oh well that's a given I think. But a lot of websites have been using people's personal information for years without consent. Facebook isn't the first site to do that and it certainly won't be the last.
Which honestly sucks lol.

Especially if they already have the information, there'd be no point in deleting Facebook.

Facebook lost $75 billion in valuation in a matter of days and their share price tumbled nearly 20%, so you can't say it wasn't effective.

600,000 Americans took an MBTI personality quiz. From these 600,000 people, Cambridge Analytica was able to obtain data from 50 million Americans (those 600k people and their friends). Cambridge Analytica was hired by both Brexit and Trump campaigns to spread essentially Facebook clickbait. They had a lot of information on those 50 million Americans and knew what pushed their buttons, and so made targeted ads and targeted sharebait/clickbait that much more effective. People are outraged that Cambridge Analytica was able to get their data without their consent, and so are deleting their Facebook account. Even if the amount of the people deleting their accounts is miniscule, Facebook is being sued to oblivion at the moment, and many countries (including my own) are thinking of introducing very strict regulations and privacy protections as to what these companies are allowed to do with user data.

Even myspace is still around. LOL oh man, Myspace. Those were some fun times. I remember when Myspace was the cool hangout, and Facebook was for the "old people". But then it grew and before you knew it, Myspace was dead and now Facebook is world wide and nearly every person you know has one, even if they don't use it. What I miss the most about Myspace was the ability to customize and add music. It was a super fun way to express yourself, but I could see how it could make it difficult to navigate someone's page at times. Still, I wish Facebook had more customization options lol.

Hmmm....meh. I don’t really even use Facebook anymore to be honest. I’ve found it quite boring and really repetitive for many years in the lead up to deciding to stop using it. I really couldn’t care less.

Early Facebook was nice. It was simple to use, simple layout, and the feuding and drama was less prominent. Now it's so flamey you could roast marshmallows over there if you're not careful who you befriend. Back in '09 and '10 people didn't use it to air their personal drama left and right and fight with their friends and family that they support some politician they disagree with. This data violation thing is just the straw that broke the camel's back I guess. I'm on it only for people I otherwise don't keep in touch with via text, but my days of being gung ho about it are over. I do have a Discord account and only used the chats one night. I guess it's a thing I'll have to give another chance, but I didn't understand it much, just made an account on the fly because why not? I prefer joining things where I can pick a name I want to use, because privacy, and connect with people over common interests and meet new potential friends that way, not just limit myself to those I already know. IRL friends were once complete strangers until you met them too, so I don't know how it being online makes it different.

MySpace was fun to customize, but it was harder to keep track of your friends unless you went right to their profile, that's what Facebook did better, the newsfeed thing. Also, MySpace still had journals you had to click to read and a comment section separate from the journals. It did feature forums and chats on the main page, which was cool, but not accessible to those with dial up at the time. Tumblr is the only one I can think of that you can really customize how you want for the look, but it's not as user friendly for adding code to change that stuff unless you really know what you're doing.
