I've heard that Fortnite is now one of the most popular games at the moment. When did it even become popular? I know that it definitely wasn't hugely popular last year (during my final year of High School). It literally seems to have just became a massive fad only a week or two ago. Does anyone on here play it? What's it even like?

I haven't played it before, but I'm about to though.

Never played it nor have the means to, but for those who have, what is it's appeal and why the sudden popularity?

Lol right?? Before I even knew it existed, it had become very popular. My younger brother actively plays it too, it looks fun, but not my kind of game. I'm bad at shooters lol.

I think it became really popular around the beginning of the year, I saw that it was all over Facebook and YouTube so I downloaded it but haven't got around to playing it yet

Never played it nor have the means to, but for those who have, what is it's appeal and why the sudden popularity? I'm honestly not too sure. Maybe there was something on social media that went viral and increased the game's popularity? Lol right?? Before I even knew it existed, it had become very popular. My younger brother actively plays it too, it looks fun, but not my kind of game. I'm bad at shooters lol. I'm no good at shooters either. I remember I played Call of Duty once at a shopping centre and I felt light-headed after playing it just for five minutes, because I couldn't get used to the first-person view. I think it became really popular around the beginning of the year, I saw that it was all over Facebook and YouTube so I downloaded it but haven't got around to playing it yet Lol. Until I saw it mentioned on the news about a week ago, I hadn't even heard of Fortnite.

It's really weird, because my brother bought the game in July 2017 when no one knew about the game, it was a few days before it came out (you had early access if you pre-ordered) and before the Battle Royale mode even existed, we both played it with some of our friends, most of us got bored pretty quickly. Once the Battle Royale game mode was added later in 2017 (which is basically a copy of PUBG, but with the ability to build, lol), my brother and I played it again. It's super fun when you play with friends. I liked it a lot more than the original game, they drop 100 real life players from a plane on an island where you have to find weapons, materials to build, and survive/kill until you're the last 1-4 people remaining depending on which game mode you play (solo, duos, and squads). Even my sister started playing it last month since all of her fiends are playing it, and she doesn't play video games that much.

One of my cousins actually owns Fortnite and I remember him mentioning to me once before that it's really good when you play it with a group of people. Based off how you have described, it sounds like it would be interesting to play. Maybe I should give it a go. I played a little on my Nintendo Switch (it's free to download on there) and it I couldn't get into it. Fair enough. At least you gave it a go. Anyway, it's interesting to hear that it's free to download on the Switch. I wonder why that's the case? I don't think it's a Nintendo game, at least not as far as I know.

The game makes me cringe with it's emotes, laughably bad ads, and cringe-worthy YouTubers who play the game. Not to mention I saw clickbait like: "5 year old wins a game of Fortnite!" or "6 year old carries me in Fortnite", which is not only very likely to be fake, but also, just the fact that these irresponsible idiots want to expose a Kindergartener to Fortnite. WTF?!? They should be playing Mario and Pokemon, not a shooter!

The trouble is, many parents are naive and unaware of the content within the game itself. They may be under the impression that Fortnite is an appropriate game for children of that age, especially considering how universally popular the game is at the moment.
