On a breakfast TV program I was watching this morning, the hosts and guest panelists were having a debate about the decision to release a Marvel movie on the 25th April. "Avengers: Infinity War" was originally intended to be released on the 27th April, however it was brought forward by two days, because there is a public holiday for ANZAC Day on the 25th. In case you're wondering what ANZAC Day is, it is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand for those who served and died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Understandably, this has caused a lot of debate, because a lot of people believe it is morally wrong to release a blockbuster on a day of remembrance. Just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts about it? I personally don't think it's much of a concern, because sporting events are regularly held on the 25th April each year and businesses operate as per normal. The release of a movie isn't going to discourage people from paying their respects for those who have served in the armed forces.

Anyway, the first avengers was released on Anzac Day too and there was nowhere near the amount of outrage there is today. Also, sports are played (like you mentioned), and I think it is less respectful to gamble and drink/get drunk rather than watching a movie.

Personally I find the commercialisation and politicisation of ANZAC Day much more offensive than whether or not companies decide to release unrelated products and services on April 25.
If the cinemas (like most places) are only open from about 1pm on ANZAC Day, who really cares whether or not people go and watch a new release movie on that day?

Yep, I completely agree on all points. To be honest, I think a lot of people just like to make a mountain out of a molehill. I have my doubts that the decision to premiere "Avengers: Infinity War" on ANZAC Day would genuinely offend most people. It's just a sensationalist act on the media's behalf; trying to create a headline out of nothing, basically. If it didn't receive extensive media attention, I personally think there would only be a minority who would actually be vocally opposed to the outcome. Because so many people are naive and believe everything that the media tells them, now it has become a hot topic of debate, when it should never have been one in the first place.

I've just come back home from going to see "Infinity War" with three of my friends. As to be expected, the cinema was completely packed and I haven't heard anyone complain about the movie premiering on ANZAC Day. It was just a media beat-up.
