Over the past few days, the moderation team have been discussing methods to handle certain situations which may arise on the forum. With Popedia continuing to grow and more people signing up, it is important that we all come to a clear consensus as to what is and what isn't deemed as acceptable. As such, the moderation team have come to an agreement over a number of appropriate course of actions. This is to ensure that Popedia continues to be an enjoyable place which encourages constructive and positive discussion.
Below are brief summaries about what the prohibited acts are and the penalties which may apply, as a result of them. When a member is officially warned, they gain warning points, which are publicly displayed on their member profile. "Official warnings" are generally removed after two weeks, depending on the severity of the incident. Warning points do not apply to general verbal warnings made on the forum.
"Thread Hijacking"
It's only natural that discussions will veer off-topic, however this is based on a more sinister and selfish act. The act of "thread hijacking" is someone who intentionally steers a thread off-topic by making a post which has absolutely no context with the topic of discussion. These type of posts do not reference an existing post in the thread, nor do they make any attempt to continue the discussion. An example of which could be someone who has created a thread based on discussing The Walking Dead, but someone comes along and makes a post in the thread about "people born in 1995 being the first Gen Z'ers".
I would like to stress that the moderation team do not expect discussions to stay within the confined boundaries of the topic and we're not going to over-police every single conversation. This is strictly referring to posts which are made without the intention of continuing on a discussion, or relating back to the intended purpose of the thread. Here is an example of a "thread hijacking" scenario, based off the example in the previous paragraph:
These are the penalties for thread hijacking:
* Two warnings (one verbal warning, the second an official warning if the member proceeds to do it again) will be issued to the member responsible for the act. If a member has hijacked a thread, but they have not done so previously, the member will be given a word of warning. As such, the hijacker will be advised to start a new thread to continue their point, or to continue their point in an existing, more appropriate topic.
* If the member hijacks another thread, an official warning will be issued. This will result in a "warning level" appearing on their profile. The "warning level" may be removed from their profile after a certain period of time (most likely after two weeks), if the member does not hijack another thread and does not cause any further trouble on the forum.
* If a member hijacks a thread for a third consecutive time, the member will be immediately banned for 24 hours.
* In the unlikely scenario that a member returns from a 24-hour ban and proceeds to hijack yet another thread, the member will be banned for a week.
"Repeat Decadeology Offenders"
In the majority of cases, threads which are deemed to be decadeology will be locked and no further action will be necessary. However, members who repeatedly create decadeology threads and are largely responsible for decadeology occurring on the forum may be penalised. We don't want to end up in a situation where threads such as this are plaguing the boards. These penalties will only apply to members who create several decadeology threads within a short period of time. Here are a few examples of decadeology threads:
If you're unsure of what decadeology is and the type of topics which are considered acceptable, please refer to this thread. Penalties for repeat decadeology offenders include:
* An official warning be issued to the member responsible for creating several decadeology threads within a short amount of time. The official warning will be removed after a month, if the respective member does not create a decadeology thread during that time and acts appropriately on the forum. As such, the member will be warned that if they create another decadeology thread within the next four weeks (a month), the penalties below will apply:
* In the scenario that the member does not follow the official warning and proceeds to create another decadeology thread within that period of time, the member will be immediately banned for 24 hours. Once the temporary ban concludes, the member will be issued with the title, "Decadeology offender". The title will be placed in their mini-profile/member profile and will be publicly visible to see. In addition to this, the member will also no longer have the ability to send personal messages.
These penalties will apply until the member demonstrates that they will no longer be accountable for decadeology on Popedia. If the moderation team deem the member to no longer be a threat to the forum, the penalties will be revoked and the member will once again be able to send personal messages.
Disputes over generation cut-offs
On forum sites such as Personality Cafe and inthe00s, generation-based topics can quite often turn into disputes about when a certain generation starts/ends. These disputes can turn into heated debates and hate speech can occur, as a result. To ensure that Popedia doesn't suffer from the same type of heated disputes, these penalties will apply:
* A verbal warning will be issued to the members involved in a heated dispute about generation cut-offs and/or labels. If they accept the warning and the dispute ceases, no further action is necessary.
* An official warning will be issued to members who continue the debate and ignore the earlier word of warning. The official warning will be removed after two weeks.
* In the scenario that the debate continues after an official warning has been issued, the members responsible for continuing the debate will be banned for 24 hours.
Generally speaking, if a dispute/argument occurs on the forum, the members involved in the dispute will be issued a verbal warning. If the dispute continues after the word of warning, the members who take part will likely receive official warnings, depending on the severity of the incident.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please speak with me or with one of our moderators. Thanks.

Member 2: Yep. I can't believe Rick didn't kill Negan!
