Apologies if the title is slightly misleading. I'm interested to hear other people's thoughts on this. Do you believe 2018 is the first year that free-to-air has truly been impacted by streaming services?
Last night, two shows that received ratings of just 567K and 556K respectively were in the Top-10 list of most watched shows, despite the fact that we are just a few weeks away from the start of Winter. Just 12-18 months ago, that would have been unheard of. Established formats, such as The Voice, House Rules, My Kitchen Rules and Masterchef, have all experienced a decline in viewership over the past few months. I guess you could make a point that viewers are simply becoming fatigued by the reality-TV format, although i'm not sure if that is truly the case.

Yesterday was another low-rating night for free-to-air.

Yesterday was another low-rating night for free-to-air. I suspect the commercial networks running the same reality franchises at the same time every year isn't going to cut the mustard with viewers for too much longer!

I agree, although i'm not sure if the reality franchises are really the main factor behind the overall decline in ratings. It's possible that the Australian public are now preferring to consume their entertainment through Stan, Netflix and other streaming services, similar to how Netflix has already eclipsed American TV in terms of popularity and relevance.
