Yes. Not sure how much you have heard (considering from what I have seen Seven, Nine and Ten have barely covered the fires, which I find quite astounding), but authorities are seriously considering bringing crews over from parts of Europe and America to help if things didn’t improve. Yeah, I heard about that on The Latest actually. I would even be looking into bringing the crews over now to help assist with controlling the fires. It may be more of an expenditure, but at least it should decrease the threat of the South Western Wilderness catching fire. Yep, the Tasmanian fires have only received about a 20-second mention on Nine's Afternoon News, which is ridiculous. The fires may not be happening on the mainland, but it shouldn't matter. Yes, it’s definitely a real possibility from what I’ve heard over the last few days. Time will tell as always. Oh, OK. At least Seven briefly mentioned it on their late news I guess, because I haven’t seen it mentioned elsewhere. I really shouldn’t be surprised, because if it doesn’t happen in NSW, Vic or Qld, it usually doesn’t receive much coverage if any on the commercial networks (only the ABC and SBS cares). Edit: I shouldn’t just pick on the media here. I’m still waiting for our Prime Minister, yes our PM in Scott Morrison to visit Tassie during a crisis. What a pathetic human being he is.

The ScoMobile mustn't travel across water. In all seriousness though, I think it's a pretty bad look that Scott Morrison (or Bill Shorten, for that matter) hasn't visited Tasmania at some point during the past few weeks. If this were to happen to a mainland state, it would be generating news headlines in the media about the PM choosing to "ignore" a state during a time of need.

Hopefully Scummo is no longer our PM in a few months time. 🙏 We’ll see but I bet he will be all over Townsville and their floods during the next week or so.

Scott Morrison must read Popedia, because he visited Tasmania today and held a press conference in regards to the Tasmanian bushfires. That's just after us saying only last night that he never visits Tasmania during times of crisis.

That's just after us saying only last night that he never visits Tasmania during times of crisis. Too bad he’s a week and a half late though. He also had no real intentions from what I’ve read elsewhere. He was originally up north and only decided to travel down south because he heard Shorten was here and it wouldn’t have been a good look for the idiot. How pathetic if true (which I have no doubts it is accurate information).

I forgot to say that Saturday (2nd February) was Groundhog Day in Canada and the colder parts of the US. According to tradition, if a groundhog comes out of its hole, sees its shadow and burrows back inside, that portends a long and harsh winter ahead. If it fails to see its shadow and stays outside, it means it will be an early spring. Cheers erupted in Pennsylvania when its famous groundhog Punxsutawney Whiley didn't see his shadow. Ontario's own Wiarton Willie (his second year on the job) also gave in his vote for an early spring. However, Quebec's Fred La Marmotte and Nova Scotia's Shubenacadie Sam weren't having any of it and burrow back inside, warning people to prepare for difficult times ahead. According to meteorologists of the homo sapien variety however, while early February will be warmer than average, we are predicted to plunge back into Arctic conditions from mid-February to early March. While spring will try spring up every now and then, winter will have the upper hand until late into April, so they are predicting a late start to spring. Let's hope the groundhogs are right!

4 February High: 12°C Low: 1°C (windchill: -3°) Foggy in the morning. Mostly cloudy. Rain in the evening. ---- It feels like the middle of April, not the beginning of February! I was actually sweating a bit, even in my spring coat. I was wearing earmuffs and gloves too, I had to take them off. I forgot how to dress in this kind of weather That was a 40 degree warm up in less than 100 hours! (-25°C to 12°C)

Experiencing such a rise in temperature whilst still in Winter would be pretty hard to adjust to.

It was so liberating to be able to walk out the house without wearing 10 layers first

7 February High: 1°C Low: -3°C (Overnight: 8°C) Overcast. Foggy. Freezing drizzle in the morning. Freezing rain the rest of the day. Brief warm up overnight (will only last for two hours). ---- Everything was covered in ice today, I may as well have brought ice-skates instead of snow boots. It was post-apocalyptic. People were slipping and falling and screaming everywhere. I had to pick up two overweight women who slipped and couldn't get back up. I was walking like a penguin at 500 metres/hour max with many near slips, face-plants and splits I've never been so ready for spring in my life. I'm pretty sure I say that every winter but this year I'm really feeling it!

Today was certainly a welcome reprieve! It was raining with a maximum top of just 16C when I left Kirkconnel (a locality about 20 kms east of Bathurst) at 1.30pm this afternoon. Kirkconnel has a subtropical highland climate due to it's high elevation, which is a pretty significant contrast to the oceanic climate that we experience here in Wollongong. This was rammed to the point during my return trip back home this afternoon. By the time I got back home four hours later, it was 33C. The strong gusts of wind at least kept the temperature from being too uncomfortable, but I definitely prefer the conditions that I experienced at Kirkconnel!
