Cliche kind of thread, but I still think it's interesting in a kind of "fascinating yet scary" way. I will start: "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer, a disco tune which is pretty much the start of EDM and one of the earliest uses of synthizers in hit music which would be extremely defining in the next decade this came out, is as old today (1977)... ...as this vintage fluff by the notorious Bing Crosby was back then (1936)What else do you find odd or interesting to share ?

Interesting observation! To be honest, I can't believe that the 1970s are essentially entering into "vintage" territory now. It's incredible to think that 1970 is almost 50 years ago! Anyway, back on topic: * Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is as old today as The Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Head" was back in 1991! * "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith is the same age today as "Stayin' Alive" was back in 1998.

Ho boy, expect me to geek out to this very quickly!
The songs from Green Day's Dookie, released 1 February 1994...
Are as old today as the Archies' "Sugar Sugar" (1969) was back when it came out:

Oh yes, there's also this...
"Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang", released 19 November 1992...
...is as old today as Frankie Valli's of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", released May 1967:

^I approve of geeking out in this thread as much as your heart desires!
Arguably the very first well-known Hip Hop song from 1979, "Rapper's Delight", is as old today...
... as this classic Big Band tune that topped the charts in 1940 was back then:

This song came out in June 2004 (at least its video did; the single wasn't until the following July)...
It's as old now as this song from May 1990 was back when it debuted...
This song took some time to blow up, but it was originally released 8 April 2008...
...thus making it as old today as this, released in December 1997, was back when it came out...
This ambitious song came out in November 1967...
It is as old today as this was back when it was released...
This first appeared on television on 8 April 1999...
Today, it's just about as old as this song, released in late 1979, was back then...
This very '90s-sounding track from May 1989...
...is as old today as this song from 1960 was back when it came out...

This one is an interesting one: The very first rock hit song "Rock Around The Clock" (1955) is as old today... ...As 1892 was back then, one of the earliest years of recorded music. An example would be this popular little music-hall tune that was recorded back then: The 50s are so old, they are now starting to get closer to a period where music wasn't even recorded yet

So, I find it amazing that this...
...is older now than this was back when it first came out...
Even compared to music from the early 1970s, "Heart of Glass" sounds like it came from a completely different generation of music. For years I grew up thinking it was an '80s song and was shocked when I learned how old it was. For the record, the song is now 40 years old.
Also, this...
...is now as old as this was back when it first came out...

Kelis' "Milkshake" (2004) is as old today as...
..."Ice Ice Baby" (1990) was back then.
To be honest, I still don't think of 2004 as being fourteen years ago.

The first truly 2000s-sounding urban song...
...is as old today as this was back on its original release:
The Backstreet Boys had a hit this year. Their first hit...
...came out as long ago today as this did back when it was released:

Might be silly to say, but knowing 2012 is as old as 2006 was back then kind of surprising since 2012 was the year where I noticed shifting aesthetics that are still relevant nowadays
This song is as old today...
as this was back then
Both of their clips are screamingly out of their respective decades.

"Milshake" was actually released in 2003, meaning it is closer to 1989 than to today, and is as old today than this was back then: I wasn't actually aware of that. I remember it was a hit back in 2004, so I always had the impression that the single itself was released around the beginning of the year.

I remember it was a hit back in 2004, so I always had the impression that the single itself was released around the beginning of the year. Getting more precise than just years, the first few months of 2004 are already closer to the '80s than to today. Therefore, this... ...is as old now as this was back upon its release: "Milshake" was actually released in 2003, meaning it is closer to 1989 than to today, and is as old today than this was back then: "Milkshake" may have been released in 2003, but SharksFan99 is right that it was specifically popular in early 2004. Also, "Tell It to My Heart" came out around the end of 1987 and was popular at the start of 1988.
