Yes, there is yet another reboot of a kids TV Show. The Disney Channel has confirmed that a live-action TV movie based on Kim Possible will be released next year. I can understand the network wanting to revive the series, but why turn it into a live-action movie? What a ridiculous decision. I definitely won't be watching the new movie, even though I liked and watched the TV show back in the Mid 2000s.
Did anyone else here watch Kim Possible? If so, what are your thoughts on this?

Ahh so that explains why all episodes are currently available On Demand.
I recently expressed my love for the mid 00's Disney Channel cartoons on one of the live chats. Naturally I had to watch some KP upon my discovery and I must admit, it wasn't really as good as I remembered, though it was never a favorite.
There is something very current about a girl badass so I don't fault Disney for bringing it back. But I agree about live action being unnecessary. Part of what made the show cool was the mid century modern/comic book like animation, along with the fantastical action scenes that I just don't see translating that well. However Maleficent/Cinderella/Jungle Book have all done super well at the box office so I don't see it going anywhere. (Imo they're popular due to fans of the franchise, not of turning cartoon classics into live action just for kicks.)
And that girl playing Kim looks too young. While normally I complain about teens cast appearing too old (ie: the new Freakt Friday), I always viewed her as a womanly older teenager, not a tween.

Yeah, I think I remember hearing that in one of the live streams actually. To be honest, Kim Possible was the only Disney Channel cartoon I watched. It was actually one of my favourite cartoons when I was 5/6 years old. In regards to how you decided to re-watch Kim Possible, to be honest, I think that's quite often the case when people re-watch shows from their childhood. For instance, I had to watch an episode of The Magic School Bus for a science lesson back in Year 9 and even though it was nice to reminisce about it, it really wasn't as good as how I had remembered it. It seemed pretty ordinary in comparison. Yep, I completely agree on those points. Some of the key aspects which made Kim Possible so successful in the first place have been left out entirely in this new film, such as the style of animation and the design of the characters. I wonder if they will have Rufus in the new movie?

What I have to wonder is, what demo is being targeted here? Adults will probably not watch this because they’ve grown and they can’t relate to child actors. Kids don’t tend to like live action films, mostly preferring cartoons. So who were they aiming for here?

Kids don’t tend to like live action films, mostly preferring cartoons. So who were they aiming for here? Probably just the same age 8-12 market as their normal live action shows and movies. I'm pretty sure it's out now so I'll watch and try to figure that out. But I wondered the same thing with "Raven's Home", though it seems to be popular on its own merit. The main problem I see is not enough time has gone by to create deep nostalgia, as it's not like most of the kids who watched these shows initially have their own tweens to share them with yet. Part of me thinks Disney is relying on the fact that a lot of us 90's borns never stopped enjoying our old favorites and see no shame in still watching children's programming. So even if the kids don't get it, the big kids may stop to check it out.

Alright, just finished the movie. It was okay. I think it would've been a touch confusing for young kids who had never watched the animated show, while at the same time, they took some liberties that were disappointing having already been familiar. The sets and special effects were cheesy, 00's looking at best, while admittedly Rufus wasn't bad. They shoehorned in a lot of current references in attempt to modernize it, which felt forced and unnecessary.
I stand by my original assessment that the girl cast as Kim was too young looking to pull off the character. But not just that, I found her bland. Considering a major plot point was Kim's perfectionism and confidence, she didn't come off believably as fierce and agile. Ron however was pretty great, and clearly had studied him intently. Dr. Drakken looked probably as close to the character as I imagine a real person could be, and was entertaining.
Alas, no Seniors. Junior really was a fab villain.

It's interesting to hear your opinion of it! I haven't watched the movie yet, although i'm not sure if I will actually get around to doing so or not (probably not, to be honest ). In a way, I feel as though the movie would have benefited more if it had of been entirely produced from a contemporary perspective and not as some sort of ill-conceived throwback to the 2000s. The '00s looking sets and special effects weren't necessary really, even if they do serve as a nice nod to the TV show. I also tend to think that it was maybe a bit too soon for a Kim Possible movie to be produced/released. Maybe if the movie had of been released in say, 2022 (which will serve as the 20th anniversary of the show's premiere), there would have been a lot more demand/interest and the end result likely would have been better.

The thing is though, it wasn't supposed to look 00's. They did update the technology, like how Kim talks to Wade. But places like the Possible's house, and the villains' lairs were pretty cheesy, even for a DCOM, when they looked so cool on the animated series. My suggestion would be to watch it on fast forward if you're curious lol.

Fast-forwarding a movie would be too much effort, lol.
