I haven't been able to reduce a quote from a conversation down to just one post without messing up the whole thing. Either it disappears or just looks weird. Any pointers?

I haven't been able to reduce a quote from a conversation down to just one post without messing up the whole thing. Either it disappears or just looks weird. Any pointers? When I want to quote a single post from a conversation, I delete the rest of the text which I don't want to include in my post. After that, I then click on the "BBCode" tab and I delete the coding from the posts I have deleted [it will look like "quote source"/post/31377" etc.]. I have recorded a quick video demonstration which might better explain how to do it:
