This is something that I have given a lot of thought about and I feel as though it is the right decision. I have decided that i'm going to take a break from posting. I wish I didn't have to take a break from posting, but to be honest, it has gotten to a point where I have simply had enough of posting as often as I do. If you look at the "Recent Posts", pretty much every 2nd or 3rd post is made by me. It shouldn't be that way.
I have made a lot of threads in recent times which haven't received any responses at all, like the "Bali Bombings" thread and the "Prisons" thread. I've been creating these threads in the hope that it would start interesting discussions and keep everyone interested in the forum, but it mustn't be the case. I get the impression that I am just being a nuisance by posting so much. So, I apologise if that is the case.
I appreciate the members who do try to make the effort to post as often as they can and I try to respond to all of your posts as often as possible. However, it shouldn't just be up to a handful of members to try and keep the forum active. There's about 25-30 members who log on each day and while I appreciate the fact the fact that every one of you log onto the forum, if we're being realistic, there's only about 4-5 members who post every day or two. To the members who don't post, I would be interested to know why. Are all of you busy, are you not finding the threads interesting? I can't stress how much I would appreciate any sort of feedback, because honestly, I feel like i'm talking to a brick wall at times.
If people were really interested in seeing Popedia survive into the future, we should all be trying to play a part, however big or small, in trying to keep the forum afloat. Even if it was just in the form of making one post a day, that's still significant in it's own way. It doesn't even have to be a well-thought out post. There's lot of threads in the "Games & Trivia" board which literally take only a few seconds to post in.
I will still log-in each day, however I won't be posting again until the forum's overall activity begins to increase.

I don't think your posting is a nuisance at all. It helps to keep it more active actually. I think posting less would backfire. On our end, sometimes there isn't much to say I don't remember the Bali bombings as they happened, for example. I'm sure that's true for most of the users here who were even younger than me. The game/trivia threads seem weird to me, I'm not a "get my post count up" kind of person. Other than that, I think people don't have time to read and reply to too many posts. It takes me 10-20 minutes to write a substantiative post, which isn't time I always have. Writing 3 or 4 of those would eat up a huge chunk of someone's day. On my end, I will try to make new threads from now on and see what happens.

I understand how you feel. The threads I try to start never seem to get that much action, which is why I gradually stopped making them on the PerC generations board. It is pretty niche over there. Personally though I just don't have it in me to sign into everything or write quality posts everyday. Sometimes it's general businesses, others it's my feeling too depressed. It's a lot for me to admit that but it's the truth. I want to take my writing and my research so much further, I'd like to start making videos and whatnot, but I have to fight myself. Unless I feel somehow forced or at least permissed, I just feel lethargic and like it doesn't matter nor does anybody care. And if I don't feel good from it, and there's no benefit to anybody else, why am I bothering again? Anyway I guess I'm only saying this just in case others do too, so at least they aren't alone.

Your not going to have any actual discussions in there so it seems like a waste of time. Also yeah, if I am going to make a decent post on here I have to make a commitment to myself to sit down and write it. Something which hasn't been that easy lately.

The reason I don't post super often is because I have other priorities. I'm also in the same boat as slowpoke when it comes to increasing your post count. I just don't really care about posting as much as I possibly can. I just don't see a point in it. I'm sorry if I ever made you feel ignored shark, I sometimes just don't know what to say/how to feel about a thread. So I'll just not respond to it.

I won't be posting again until the forum's overall activity begins to increase. Ummm...I think it's a bit of chicken and egg thing. I can't say I've been in the same boat, but I've had a similar experience with trying to keep a forum alive and, well, if the most active person doesn't post much, others will probably post even less.
I'm not sure why it's been quiet but for myself at least, I've been sick and right now I'm having a headache from fever just typing this reply. I just came on because, 1) I'm sick of staying in bed, and 2) I wanted to reply to Paul about Einstein's riddle because I haven't had too much time the past few days and I was busy searching the icons. I've been posting on FJ even less.
And well, I don't post in some threads because I honestly have nothing to say, like with recent news or even threads about TV shows etc, I don't know about those so I don't want to make a dumb comment and feign interest just for the sake of keeping the forum active.
I think it's fine to be one of the few keeping your own forum active, I mean most people would expect an admin or at least a staff member to be one of the most active. It's not a nuisance or anything, it's your forum so you can do whatever you want with it. If people find it annoying it's their problem, they can just stop visiting. But obviously that's not the case with all the lurkers, unless you forced them at gunpoint to visit daily when they signed up. So even if you keep posting things people don't seem to have anything to say about, who cares?
Honestly, I'll be less inclined to post on a board where the admin seems to have given up posting but expects other users to be even more active. I don't exactly have a vested interest in reviving Popedia, so there's no incentive for me to keep being active on here. Same goes for any other forum really if the admin did the same thing.

Just re-reading my original post, I would really like to say that i'm sorry for the post I made. It was wrong of me to "expect" members to post more often. I understand that some of you are not able to post as often as you would like to due to school/work and other commitments and I can sympathize with that. Not to use this as an excuse, but admittedly, I haven't really been in a good state of mind over the past few weeks and i'm starting to notice it manifest in my most recent posts. Again, i'm sorry for my ignorant and disrespectful post. I will respond to the posts made in this thread as soon as I can.

I just don't know at times if I am posting more than I should be and sometimes I think my excessive posting can be perceived as being irritating to others. It may play a part in keeping the forum more active, but I wasn't sure how other people perceived it. That's understandable. Also, thanks for trying to create more new threads. I appreciate it. I understand how you feel. The threads I try to start never seem to get that much action, which is why I gradually stopped making them on the PerC generations board. It is pretty niche over there. I'm sorry to hear that and I appreciate the fact that you spoke about it, as I know it wouldn't have been easy. I can empathise with what you are describing, because to be completely honest, that's exactly how I feel a lot of the time as well. It's the frustration that came out of that which led me to wanting to take a break from posting altogether. A lot of the time I don't have the motive to post or regularly come up with new threads, but I kind of feel as though I have to, otherwise the forum would likely start to decline in activity. That's okay, I understand. Also, please don't feel bad about it, because you have never made me feel ignored. I'm not blaming anyone over the lack of activity on the forum. I will admit, the lack of activity can be frustrating at times, but it isn't always possible for people to get the time to make a post on the forum and that's entirely okay. Ummm...I think it's a bit of chicken and egg thing. I can't say I've been in the same boat, but I've had a similar experience with trying to keep a forum alive and, well, if the most active person doesn't post much, others will probably post even less.

I do agree with what you are saying. I guess the reason as to why I have the mindset that my posts may be perceived as being a nuisance, is because a lot of the time, I make the most amount of posts each day and with people not always getting the chance to respond to posts/threads, I wasn't sure if it was because they were simply finding my posts uninteresting or frustrating.
