The thing to remember too is that there is a whole generation of kids who have grown up without rock being a huge cultural force and they're the primary consumers of pop culture. Heck, I didn't even experience my teenage years with rock having a significant presence on the Top-40 charts and i'm almost 20. Imagine how someone who was born in say, 2004 or 2005 is going to relate to pop-punk or rock music in general. It's essentially "old timers" music to them. I was at least able to experience my entire childhood (2002-2011) when rock was still huge. The people born in the second-half of the 2000s never had that chance and they're now all starting to become teenagers.

True it seems that after my first 2 yrs of high school most of the white kids at my high school moved on from rock/metal.

I'm happy that you're able to remember all of that so well, but the fact remains that you're missing the underlying point: you can't simply astroturf a pop cultural movement into existence. hmmm

Rock is already meshing with alt pop via the Halsey song
I takes the same melody from Puddle of Mudd a post grunge 2000s band
