Inspired by @sharksfan99 series of the same name
So to give you guys a little incite on what happened with me, my elementary school was connected with my Middle school,
I was absent a lot in 6th grade so I had to go to a bad kids school (away from town) the entire duration of 7th grade, so all of 2000-2001
school year was me anticipating getting back to 8th grade for the 2001-2002 school year in my normal school. Yeah it was insane.
Major plot points and observations in bullet points.
. Final year Pokemon had hype, Gold & Silver is a MAJOR hit
. The Pokemon TV show fades with people in October
. Wrestling loses popularity a bit when they go to TNN, falls off a little more in March
. Peak Toonami, Cell Saga is all everyone is talking about.
. Ps2 launches, there is mass hysteria (no one can get their hands on one until 2001-2002 school year)
. Mad TV peak popularity with Stewart (look what I can do)
. Game boy Color final year of peak popularity
. Around April Teen Pop fades out, It was semi noticable
. Jan Sega ends as a console manufacturer, PISSEd the FK off over that to this day
. Digimon Season 2 is a hit
. Rumors start that I am dating someone in the bad kids school, this rumor makes its way to the first day of the 2001-2002 school year at my normal school.
. Harry Potter mania starts
. Shrek starts airing ads in May, it was getting annoying
. Playstation introduces a new Slimmer model called psOne, it was alright but broke
. Hype for Game boy Advance starts
. The y2k feeling fades off around May/June end of the school year, would take until July to full be gone
. "It Wasn't Me" by Shaggy gets played non stop
. Purple pills by eminem and D12 is played non stop
. Final phase of y2k fashion
- Final thoughts -
Was not really the biggest fan of this year as the majority of it was me waiting until the next school year, I was COUNTING down the days.

I was in preschool that year but I do remember wrestling being a big deal at the time.

Wrestling was in its last mega popular phase here, kind of wound down in tha Fall of 2000 before losing alot of popularity in 2001 due to WCW being bought by WWE And then it got popular again in 2002 when Hulk Hogan came back, and then became unpopular again once his nostalgia run was over.

I don't remember this time very well but you could tell the early 2000s was starting to bloom, especially in the second semester.

A tad bit yes, things that happened that school year in the second semester were: - Sega Ending as a console - Teen pop phased out (the very start of this transformation was in April and concluded 2 weeks before 9/11) - Pop Punks 2.0 era planting seeds - Pokemon losing popularity after Gold & Silver -WCW bought by WWE This school year in general had a FINAL feeling to it, like I knew this was going to be the end of the y2k era. I couldn't wait for this school year to end as I was at a bad kids school and had to wait until the 2001-2002 school year to come back to my normal one. I was literally counting down the days.

I don't remember this time very well but you could tell the early 2000s was starting to bloom, especially in the second semester. I do agree with your stance on Y2K era pop starting to fade off at this time. At the beginning of 2001 you had this charting at #2 on the billboard hot 100. But by the end of that year it was all about Hip-Hop and R&B, and songs like “He Loves U Not“ never charted that high again. Now I remember this song during the summer of 2001. Would you consider this one the last Y2K era sounding songs or one of the first truly 2000s sounding pop songs?

This was the school year “Pokemania” started to fade out. I remember in the fall of 2000 people were saying pokemon was old news and it was all about DBZ. The last time I bought any Pokémon cards was in January 2001. And by the time I was in middle school during the early-to-mid 2000s admitting you still like or play Pokémon was a one way ticket to getting made fun of. People tried so hard to cover up that they liked Pokémon just a couple of years earlier.

The Willa Ford song sounds very Y2K, but the lyrics are Early 2000s because it is adult-pop, but it sounds teen-pop/Pop-R&B. It's a hybrid I'd say

I was in Grade 3, so I have a childish perspective on it. This is one of my favourite school years. It really just felt like 1999/2000 school year part 2 to me. People my age kept up with Pokémon, Gold/Silver was huge as was Pokémon Stadium 2. Mario Party 3 was big too. It really feels like a sequel to the previous year lol.
The big change was PS2 which was really popular. Another thing is that broadband Internet started to take off in late 2000. I didn't get it until later but some of my friends had it, they would go on cartoonnetwork.com to play the DBZ flash game on there.
Around this time, Rollercoaster Tycoon came in cereal boxes. I was hooked.
This is the last year before Spongebob and Yugioh became popular. I know Spongebob came in 1999 but it wasn't until late 2001 anyone would admit to watching it, it was seen as a baby show.

I think it's just regular Y2K-sounding pop. I don't see the lyrics as being adult-pop, they sound more like somebody exploring their sexuality for the first time. Willa was certainly mature by then, but it feels like the song is geared towards the teen pop crowd, not the people who were listening to Missy Elliott or Lil Kim at the time. It's extremely different from "I'm a Slave 4 U", which, being a Britney song produced by the Neptunes and having less emphasis on melody, was basically the song that officially confirmed the late '90s Max Martin teen pop trend had died. If the very mascot of that movement had suddenly moved on to new trends, I think it would've been safe to say times had changed.

This is the last year before Spongebob and Yugioh became popular. I know Spongebob came in 1999 but it wasn't until late 2001 anyone would admit to watching it, it was seen as a baby show. That's really interesting. I know that Spongebob didn't become the cultural juggernaut that it was until it's second season went to air (which aired in 2000), but my understanding was that the show had been popular with people of all ages from the very beginning? I'm surprised that it ever would have been perceived as a baby show.
