Sorry don’t mind me dodging my way in to show off the glorious July 1999 island aesthetic.

I wish I had some memory of 1999. It's a shame that I was only 4 months old at the time.

In my little girl memory this era was the transition between Malibu Barbie and Bratz dolls, but looking at the other 90’s pics, I can really see the remnants of 90’s normcore mixed with in-your-face 00’s.

I could have sworn Bratz came out later into the early 2000s, and sure enough they first came out May 2001. Although now I'm not sure if this post was a metaphor for something else In 1999 I was into Pokémon and Digimon. I'd do anything to wake up a day in 1999. There was this Coca Cola competition where you collect bottle caps and if you collected all the parts of a bicycle you could get a Coca Cola branded bicycle. I saw a few of them around town and I was so envious. Despite drinking an ungodly amount of coke I didn't win the competition. I did win a Coca-Cola branded lunch bag and Coca-Cola branded plastic cup though. Also winter 1999 was straight up from the apocalypse. Toronto had to call in the army to shovel snow (which made them the laughing stock of the country). I remember many snow days off school that year (and again in 2001) 😍

Lmao. While the mid to late 90’s could have a normcore vibe, some things for children retained that bright earlier 90’s look a la track suits. A Barbie doll still might’ve looked like it could’ve been from 93. The early 00’s came in with these wannabe cool and edgy things, like with Rocket Power and Bratz dolls. Barbies stopped selling as well with older kids, hence Mattel introducing the My Scene line which was designed to be more fashionable and contemporary. So 1999 and 2000 manage to capture this transition. It still looks 90’s enough but you can also see the 00’s breed of cool coming in.

Yep. As I'm sure has been said to death by now, 1998 to 2004 was an era of its own (you might call it transitionary, I guess), with 2000 to around September 2004 being an endless 1999 time loop.

That was when I had my 12th birthday. My parents got me WWF War Zone on N64 for my birthday.
Some other Summer of 1999 stuff.
Pokemon, Toonami and a bunch of other Y2K things hitting their peak. The last season of Boy Meets World premiering on ABC. The Backstreet Boys are the biggest group on the planet. My parents are still a few months away form getting their first modern computer, so I still can only go online at my cousins' house. JFK Jr.'s plane crash. Kids making a bunch of Bill Clinton sex jokes. Hey Arnold at it's peak on Nick. Zoog Disney. Things being totally different. Preteens not having mobile phones, and many not even computers, playing outside on their bikes.

This was two months after my second birthday. I think I was in India at that time as it was during the summer of '99. All I can consciously remember from that trip was me suddenly ending up in India from my apartment, me running around the house I stayed in thinking it was a labrynth cause our apartments were super small, and me enjoying the cabin ambiance of the return flights and remembering the way the cabin looked like.

I only learned about years when I was like 8.
