There was a report on ACA tonight about how ATMs are gradually on the decline and that they could one day be rendered obsolete by tap-and-go cards and mobile payments.
How often do you use an ATM? Also, when do you think ATMs will be phased out completely?

I still like to use physical cash, so I go to my local ATM at least once a fortnight. Sometimes I'll pay through pay-wave if i'm going through a drive-thru, but other than that, I generally don't use pay-wave to make payments.
As for when I believe ATMs will be completely phased out, I think it will happen sometime in the Early-Mid 2030s. I believe they'll still be available to use for the entirety of the 2020s, however they will decline in numbers as the decade goes on. They will be a thing of the past in another twenty years time.

I still have to take money out every now and then as some vendors refuse to join the 21st century. I have no clue when they'll completely phase out, they'll probably stick around in some form until mobile payments become very easy to set up.

They'll never disappear! How else do you expect people to get dollar bills for strip clubs?

Personally, I would be very surprised if ATMs are still around in another 15-20 years. I know it's going to be a gradual transition to digital-only currency, however I think physical currency is going to be made obsolete much sooner than what we realise. It's already on the way out.

ATMs are not going anywhere anytime soon I feel. I usually use one every couple of weeks or so... Hopefully never, I refuse to adapt. I still refuse to use the self serve at Supermarkets Unfortunately, you’ll have no choice real soon. Whether we like it self-serve is the future and there will to be no alternative. Most of the stores in my nearest shopping centre basically have two (at most) cashiers with the bulk made up of self machines these days. For me, I personally try to avoid them at times but I have used self-serves in the past for small purchases as it is a quicker way of doing things. For larger purchases, I’m willing to wait to be served the old fashioned way still. It just really depends. They'll never disappear! How else do you expect people to get dollar bills for strip clubs? What shocked me recently is that I went up to the cashier and they told me to use the self-checkout instead of coming to them. Do you want to keep your job or not?!

Maybe they just didn't feel like socialising with anyone at the time. I can relate to that. There are times where I honestly don't feel like using the fake, "friendly" facade' at my job either.

This was like 8 in the morning on a Sunday so I was one of the first ones there I would be able to relate if that were the case, since I was a cashier once upon a time too, but she said it in a "that's not my job" kind of way

I have never encountered this before. I’m not sure why they are trying to drive customers away from them. Would these people prefer to be joining the long unemployment queue? Sure, it’s a win for the businesses themselves as they save money not having to pay these staff members, but not for the individual.
