The internet can be a toxic place. Many people often hide under an alias simply to post snarky, sarcastic or abusive comments to others. What are some examples of toxic behaviour you have encountered online?
I've made the decision not to post on Reddit again. I was never particularly interested in the site in the first place (besides browsing through music-related topics), but recently I've started to post on sub-reddits from time to time as a last-ditch attempt to try and spread the word about our forum. This afternoon I decided to post the "Rank the urban centres of Sydney" thread on r/Sydney and it turned out to be a big mistake; I received -30 negative karma points. I also got called a "racist, classist dog" simply for expressing my preferences for suburbs such as Cronulla and Manly over Western Sydney. There were others who called me an "absolute embarrassment" and accused me of having "brain damage". I made the thread on r/Sydney through good intentions, however other people simply didn't see it that way.
I'm not letting those comments get to me at all, however I am starting to get tired of the internet in general. There can be some real jerks on the net. Going forward, my posting activity will most likely only be confined to here and the Discord chat.

I saw your post on reddit, it wasn't that out of line but the replies were very out of line. It surprises me that they put so much effort in writing replies that are so negative..

Some people just like to create drama out of anything, unfortunately. I'll admit, I probably went a bit too far with some of the responses I made, however I wasn't going to let people get away with saying some really nasty stuff to me.

I’ve been on Reddit before and there are a lot of toxic people, you can make a simple comment and get downvotes for no reason. I remember posting on a subreddit for help and they all decided to be jerks instead of actually helping me. I deleted my Reddit recently so.

It's definitely more toxic than people like to give it credit for and I've seen similar behaviour across a number of different sub-reddits, even on more broad-based forums such as r/music and r/AskReddit. I think part of the problem is that because Reddit is so popular and doesn't offer as many customised profile features (e.g you can't see people's avatars in the threads themselves) as other social media sites, people deliberately make sensationalist or controversial posts as a means of them to "stand out" from the crowd.

This is an unknowingly snooty post by someone probably living in or near the inner city bubble, who has no idea (or interest) in visiting much of the Western suburban hubs (because "eww, poorer ethnic people").
Yes, let's try to find racism and discrimination in literally every situation where it's convenient for us so we can make this guy look as bad as possible.

Just stick to browsing Reddit every now and then. The site could suddenly be great and you wouldn't even know. Also, r/Music is a default Reddit sub, its popular, bruh.
I'm subbed to subreddits like r/Toonami, Seduction and Mortal Kombat, the listed subs with a small-ish intelligent community.

Ummm...I just read one of the flame wars on this site.
I've never really got used to reddit, a few years back I was mostly on forums a lot and they had their share of drama. Also look at youtube comments.

The incident that happened yesterday afternoon has completely turned me off from posting on there. I'm sure there would be more niche subreddits which would be good to check out, but I haven't come across any that have been to my liking yet.

I've never posted on Reddit and this exactly why. I'm sorry this happened but not surprised either.

Reddit is a big place so I'm sure it depends which parts of Reddit you're on as to what attitudes you encounter. I just browse the Ask Reddit sub and seldom see anything problematic. Now Twitter is the place I felt has become toxic for similar reasons. Worse than what they say Tumblr is. It's sad that you have to be careful these days even saying harmless things someone out there is always looking to turn everything into an argument.

r/90s seem like a nice sub you can start on.
