Listened to Maroon 5's first big hit again and it's crazy to think they've been around for more of a decade now and still making huge hits year after year. They had a big hit for every year of this decade in fact (except 2010 I think EDIT: I forgot about Misery welp). Probably the most relevant 2000s act still around, more so than Beyoncé or Kanye.

I've never been a fan of Maroon 5, but I have to give them credit for remaining successful in the mainstream for as long as they have. Their most recent work is such a stark contrast to their Mid 2000s output. If you compared "She Will Be Loved" and "Girls Like You", you wouldn't think they would have been released by the same band!

If you compared "She Will Be Loved" and "Girls Like You", you wouldn't think they would have been released by the same band! That's exactly why some artists remain popular the way they do, by being adaptive and highly receptive to the newest trends. Other examples would be Coldplay which went from a quite defining Post-Britpop band of the early 2000s to adopting a highly electronized sound (think their collab with the Chainsmokers last year that was a huge hit).

I loved Maroon 5 until their last album (V) which was really bad, but TBH the album is starting to grow on me. Nonetheless, it was a huge downgrade from Overexposed.

“This Love” and “Sunday Morning” are genuine classics (never was a fan of “She Will Be Loved”...), but Maroon 5’s more recent stuff is so pasty that I simply can’t resist adopting the Todd in the Shadows-coined definition of ‘Maroon 5’ to describe anything uninspired. Their absolute lowpoint is definitely still “Animals”, though.
As far as I’m concerned, Maroon 5 ceased to exist after “Misery” and Adam Levine became a popular solo artist beginning with “Moves Like Jagger”, regardless of how much the band still wants equal billing.

Yup thats what me and my friend were saying the other year haha. "Sunday Morning" and "Makes Me Wonder" are the only songs I really like from them.

These songs turn 15 years old next year: {Spoiler}
I know I mentioned this in the Popedia Discord Chat, but the fact that 2004 is almost 15 years ago is something that I find genuinely alarming. I still subconsciously think of the Mid 2000s as only being 5-10 years ago.

Tbh 2004 actually feels being 15 years to me, it feels outdated in so many ways and completely disconnected to today's culture. I don't really know why it would be alarming, just maybe weird or suprising but not that extreme.

I agree that 2004 feels completely disconnected from today's culture, but it's just strange to think that 2004 is the same age today as 1989 was back then. It just doesn't feel as though it was so long ago, IMO. It's alarming in the sense that it really reinforces how fast time goes.

Man, I always seem to forget this song. And I just love absolutely everything about it, from the hard-hitting kick drums to the hypnotic harmonies on the chorus to the slightly tribal undertones. Might even rank among my top 5 Pop singles of the 2000s. Slightly disappointed this wasn't nearly as succesful as Nelly's "Promiscuous" and "Say it Right".

It was still a pretty big hit in it's own right though. I remember that it received a lot of media attention and radio airplay when it was a hit here in Late 2006. As for my thoughts on the song, I agree that it would have to be one of the best pop songs of 2006, although I personally don't have much time for it. I would never actually go out of my way to listen to the song.

More Maroon 5 time!
Haven't heard this one before. It apparently reached #1 in the US unlike "This Love". Sounds like a mid-2010s Synth-Funk revival song mixed with 2000s Pop Rock. It's a great tune!

I haven't heard that song in years! I've never been a fan of Maroon 5, to be honest. I just find their music (even their 2000s output) to be incredibly bland and inoffensive.

#Infinity I bought myself a few days book published by my favorite library called "823 albums to listen to before you die" (don't ask why the weird number) and they listed Rachel Stevens' "Come and Get It" in it. Thought that I'd share with you that your favorite artist definitely has a legacy to this date.
