What is the first media recording that you ever made? Do you still have the recording of it?
Here is mine: For the longest time, I had always assumed that my first recording was of this NBN Ident I filmed with my digital camera while in Port Macquarie back in January 2009, however I rediscovered a cassette tape earlier in the year that actually dates back to 2008. This morning I decided to extract some of the audio by using my mobile phone and upload parts of it to YouTube. There isn't really anything on the cassette tape worth salvaging. In the video, you can hear parts of a WIN Lineup and a Nine News Sydney bulletin presented by Mark Ferguson. There's also a commercial for a Nokia right at the beginning, which is quite entertaining.

Here's my oldest media recording (3/1/2008), this is way before I had any video capturing devices, so please excuse my very poor camera-to-TV work! National Nine News Sydney Closer and WIN News Illawarra Opener.

The earliest time I remember recording TV shows on VHS from FTA and Foxtel was 2005, though I remember a specific tape that I labelled 'verys' which I recorded some Temptation episodes around 2007 since I enjoyed watching that show, however it was recorded over with other random shows not by me in 2008 Got a digital tv tuner for Christmas in 2008, and I still have some recordings from Christmas Day that last a few seconds and screenshots, but deleted some around 2010 since they took up too much room lol (I think I still have a 7HD and ABC Kids random few second recording still). Might upload those screenshots when I get a chance!

I didn't know how to record onto VHS until I was almost 10.

I still have that exact VCR in my possession, though it has seen better days as it get mighty hungry these days!

Yeah, the oldest recording that I had my parents record for me is actually a football game from around 1993. I liked football at a young age, and so would ask my parents to record games for me occasionally.
The oldest recording I have that I actually got the tape and recorded without them was an ABC Saturday Morning recording from August 1997. I also recorded Super Bowl XXXII a few months later during January 1998.
Most of my collection of recorded VCR stuff is from the late '90s and early '00s, with some up to the late '00s. I recorded a lot of teen shows off The WB and stuff like that, so I have a lot of those recordings.

I think I remember you mentioning this once before, but have you considered possibly looking into digitally converting your VHS recordings?

Yeah, I'm going to covert them over to digital when I can, but I haven't had the opportunity to do that yet, mostly because it takes so a lot of work. I do plan on it though, because with some of my recordings getting so old, I'm concerned about some of my older stuff eventually becoming hard to watch due to age.

I didn’t figure out how to record off a VCR until I was 10. ☹️ (My parents never showed me how) So the oldest thing I recorded on my own is some Cartoon Network stuff from 2000. Unfortunately 10 year old me found out how to pause out commercials too. (Something I really regret now.) I use to have more stuff from Cartoon Network at that time, but I either taped over them or my mom tossed out the tape in one of her cleaning rampages.

I was 10 or 11 when I started but by then it was getting really difficult to find VHS blanks. So we had one or two we would use to record shows while we weren't home and kept going over them. I've never had a DVD recorder.

The oldest amateur home media recording (I have commercially recorded records going back to 1901) not by me that I have are some home made records recorded in 1940. Unfortunately there’s so much surface noise I can barely hear what’s on them. But the trans-Atlantic accents were strong then. They were probably recorded on one of these things.
