Interesting. This makes me feel really old for some reason. I wonder when Microsoft will announce their next gen console.

This will probably be the first Playstation console which I can't see myself purchasing. The only console I ever play games on is my Playstation 4 and I very rarely use that as it is; the only time I do is when i'm in the mood to shoot people on GTA. Otherwise, gaming just doesn't interest me and i'm actually finding myself losing more interest in it as time goes on. I think it will be interesting to see how the PS5 performs in terms of sales. Initial sales will be high of course, but I actually don't think the console will sell as well as the PS4 has. This is a trend which I think will only get worse in the years to come. Traditional gaming consoles will start to become obsolete in the next 10-15 years, IMO. I can see a future where new gaming titles will be released straight onto an integrated Sony app, which will have the exclusive rights to all of Sony's content (movies, games etc.) and require a monthly subscription fee to access. The advent of streaming has essentially rendered the selling point of an "all-in-one" home-entertainment system useless. I mean really, what other reasons do people have to buy a console other than just to play games? You can browse the internet through your TV without needing a console, and streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+ have pretty much killed off the idea of people buying consoles so they can watch DVDs and Blu-Rays. We've seen other forms of physical media (such as CDs and DVDs) become obsolete during this decade. What's stopping gaming consoles from going down this same path?

After seeing the backlash Google stadia got I think for the most part streaming is still pretty far off.

Gaming going to streaming is inevitable, though I can't pinpoint when it will happen. I'm amazed the PS5 is coming out next year, but in reality, the PS4 will turn seven in November 2020. I'm in no rush to get one, I just got my Xbox One last year and a Nintendo Switch the year before, and I'm good with all of that right now.

No need for me to get one. I have an Xbox One for current generation gaming, and a (pretty crappy) PC for older games (the newest game i've played is from 2012)
