For example, Uber and Lyft are now being used more than cabs. While Uber and Lyft are cheaper than taking a normal cab, Uber and Lyft arent official like taxis are, and we hear lots of cases of Uber drivers killing their passengers. However, people, like my older brother, love Uber and Lyft, so what are your guys' opinions on this? Many countries have banned Uber already.

I've heard some funny business about Uber, the way they treat their drivers not being so fair and such. Lyft I'm not sure what reputation they have. I've never used those services. I guess you have to verify who is who when someone comes to get you.

More competition is better than no competition at all, as far as i'm concerned. Taxis shouldn't have a monopoly over the entire industry. Also, taxi cabs don't exactly have a "clean-skin" reputation when it comes to the treatment of passengers or drivers either, especially in developing countries. We shouldn't be pretending that this is an issue which is only occurring with app-based ride services such as Uber and Lyft.

Wow I'm a real hipster because I thought of bike rides when I saw that thread title and got giddy.
I have used Lyft and it's a lot cheaper than a regular taxi, so I like it. I used Uber while on vacation in Europe (UK) too so that is another advantage. Taxicabs are notorious for scamming tourists I think just about everywhere, but it's impossible with Uber/Lyft. The best part I think is paying with the app, a lot of taxis don't have card readers so you have to pay in cash.

I don't use either personally but have a few times with my brother, who loves them. I'm sort of undecided on this because it came just at a point in my young adulthood where I lowkey can't remember what people used to do lmao. On one hand, it is a little sketchy that these people really aren't regulated and could turn out to be a terrible driver and get us injured. Or ya know, just be a creep. But I've never been the biggest fan of taxis either, and even busses to a lesser extent, for that reason. A commercial drivers license doesn't guarantee that much more. Getting into them, you just have to remember statistics. Most people just wanna do their job so they can get paid. As much as I'm not really a pro surveillance person, this might be one situation where it could be beneficial.

My father used to work as a yellow cab driver in Manhattan making around $2500 a week. Once app based rides came along it was only down hill for his pay. In my opinion i prefer using over calling on a phone or hailing one.
