What was 1999 like for you guys, if you were alive in it and experienced the decade? For me, I was two for more than half of the year, and I was lucky enough to remember conscious experiences from the year, though they were after my second birthday, but before 2000. Like for instance, I remember my first time on a plane, which was in the summer of '99 as my second time was only in 2002 like a month after I turned 5, and I remember looking back at 2-year old me enjoying the ambiance of the '99 plane cabin. I remember dodging my brother's rubber bands as well and then learning what a lungi was as the first time I wore one was on 1/13/2000, which i remember me, my dad, and brother wearing by the dining table. I remember being in India during the summer of '99 as well, though other than me running around the house I stayed in and thinking it was a labrynth, I dont really remember what I did there. I have many other memories, like me seeing some inappropriate things I cannot describe on here, but I do remember my family members making sure I would no longer see such stuff. What about you guys?

What about you guys? 1999 was pretty fun Ill just jot down a few bullet points from what I remember . Was playing Playstation and N64 until October and then switched to Sega Dreamcast until 2001 . Smackdown debuting on UPN was a HUGE deal as WWF was back on network television . Kind of Pissed Stone Cold got run over in story line . Britney Spears becomes an ICON this year and is solidifyed as THE artist. . I HATED rocket power when it debuted that summer . Blue by Ifle 65 is played in every CVS every Walgreens you can imagine . Gel Pens become a thing . The hype surrounding Pokemon The first Movie . Tony Hawk comes out and now everyone is suddenly a skate boarder. . Frieza Saga of Dragon Ball Z and its never ending episodes . Kids getting their pokemon cards getting taking away from in class . Me getting yelled at in front of my 6th grade teacher on a field trip

Yeah, now we're talking. I've gotten so nostalgic for 1999 lately. It was just such an awesome year with so much awesome culture. I was a young junior high school kid back then, at the peak of my youth, so I got to witness so many awesome things that year firsthand. Here's a bit of what an average day was like for a kid back during 1999.
Watch a little Kids WB morning programming before going to school. By this point that included Pokemon. School was completely different back then. No kids had mobile phones. There was no social media. Everything was still basically like it always had been, kids passed notes, and hung out with each other at lunch passing along gossip and whatnot. After school was when the fun got going. Usually, I'd call my parents from a pay phone at school and tell them I was going to my buddies house, then about four of us would hook up his N64, and play a little four player Mario Party, before passing along the latest secrets we'd heard about where to find Pokemon on Pokemon Red and Blue. After that Dragon Ball Z was usually coming on Toonami, so we'd stop playing games to watch that. After a while, I'd head back to my house and play some computer games on my parents brand new Windows 98 Compaq computer, though I didn't go online because we still didn't have online access yet. After that, I'd hook up the N64 and play some Super Mario 64 or Legend of Zelda: OoT, then watch some kids shows. If it was Monday, I was, of course, going to be watching WWF Raw.
That's kind of a basic average day for a junior high school kid of 1999. It's pretty outdated by modern standards, but I do prefer the simplicity of pre social media era.

Yeah, I was never allowed to watch TV in the morning before school, though I remember every morning there would be a one hour Sesame Streets episode and then a Teletubbies episode afterwards. I was only a 2-year old preschooler back then, but to be honest, my life did feel like your youth until my first-third grade year. I think school became harder as time progressed as I hardly had time to watch TV or use the computer for fun during school days, except Friday, when I was in school, unless it was like the Thursday before Thanksgiving break or winter break or the last week of school when all the school stuff was over.

I spent most of 1999 buying books and collecting articles on the 20th century and its events and culture.

Don't forget logging on to Yahooligans on the mac computers in school LOL I was so fast to throw n64 and ps1 in the bushes once Dreamcast dropped, who can forget coming into school on Tuesday morning, " did you see Raw last night?" lol

. I HATED rocket power when it debuted that summer [/b][/quote] Me too. I thought that show was so boring. 🙄 It’s hard to believe something like Rocket Power and Spongebob both came out the same year. That reminds me of one show I didn’t care for from the golden age of Cartoon Network. Mike Lou and Ogg. Speaking of bad cartoons from 1999 does anybody remember that stupid Megababies show? 🤦 One thing I remember about 1999, and 1998 for that matter: bucket hats. I remember many people wearing them those two years. Or shirts with one stripe in the middle.

The number one thing I remember about 1999 as a kid was how ubiquitously huge Pokémon was that year. It felt like literally every single person I knew was into that game. Thankfully I eventually joined the bandwagon myself, so it ceased being obnoxious to me. 1999 was also a great year to play Nintendo 64.

Been watching late '90s commercial breaks. It could be hard to tell where false memories end and real memories begin.

My memories of 99 are very vague but I do remember watching early episodes of Dragon Tales back then.

Same here, I didn't start watching regular cartoons till around Kindergarten. I still watched pbs kid till about 4th grade but Kids WB was my childhood prior to getting cable in the summer of 06.

I had a "boyfriend" in 1999. No, really. It was my next door neighbour. We would kiss and stuff and had a fake marriage Unfortunately in late 1999 I moved houses, so he didn't live next door anymore. I was bullied a bit in school back then. I went to a K-8 school, and the older kids would pick on me by tickling me until I couldn't breathe. I tried to stay within the supervising teacher's direct view during recess. This was mostly 1998-1999 school year. By the next year I had a large group of friends, so they didn't pick on me as much. Even though I had an N64 by then, he and his sister used to play Atari at my house and trade floppy disk games (his sister had a huge collection from the early '90s). But speaking of N64, I still remember the day I got Super Smash Bros. clear as day. It was at Zellers (Canadian Walmart), and there it was, Mario and Pikachu on the SAME cover, behind the glass door. I knew then I had to have it. I begged my mom, and she said no because she was concerned I was playing too many video games, and I got on my knees and pulled on her skirt begging her to buy it. Out of embarrassment, she let me have it. My video game addiction hit its climax

1999 I do remember a time when I was outside of home for a few days, but still in the same state. I think it was cause we had to move apartments at that time as the landlord threw us out for my dad and older brother causing too much disturbance. Nevertheless, it was then, cause we never spent a night outside of our home during the years 2000 and 2001, and we were in that apartment from 1999-2002, and in 2002 when we moved again, we moved within the same night. What an interesting early childhood memory that was.
