These two genres were not only responsible for shaping the music of the 2010s, but they also defined the eras in which they were popular. From about the first-half of 2009 to the middle of 2013, electropop was arguably the biggest genre in music and even artists from other genres were influenced by it. Many of the biggest hits from those years were electropop songs, such as "Party Rock Anthem", "Bad Romance" and "Ridin' Solo". Similarly, EDM had the most presence on the charts between Mid 2013 to the second-half of 2018. Which genre do you prefer out of the two and why?
For me personally, this is really a case of picking between two evils, but I would say that I generally prefer EDM. I've just never cared for electropop, honestly and I have no personal attachment or nostalgic feelings towards it either. It was actually the genre of music responsible for me falling out of touch with what was popular during 2009. It took years for me to start following the Top-40 charts again. To me, electropop just seems the more "superficial" out of the two. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with songs which focus on partying or having a good time, but with electropop, there was very little substance to it. Lady Gaga is the only former-electropop artist I have respect for and I do like some of her songs. Also, hearing electropop very much reminds me of my first year in high school during 2012, which is something I'd rather forget.
