Hi fellow Popedians! The Popedia Staff have decided to update our Stance on Decadeology. This has been brought on by the fact that some topics, which would previously be regarded as decadeology, have recently been allowed on the forum, such as the "2013 Cultural Debate" thread and the series of topics Captain recently created which compared the 2010s with previous decades. It has become clear that the concept of decadeology itself has become loosely defined and there is now a bit of confusion as to which topics should be allowed. Here are the changes which have been made: Topics that are allowed:* "2013 Cultural Debate: Was it more Early 2010s or Mid 2010s?" * "How would you describe the 1980s?" * "What was your favourite era of the 2010s?" * "What bands/artists do you think will be the most popular in the coming year?" * "Comparing the world/pop culture of the 1950s to the 2010s" * "Were the 1980s more like the 1960s or 2000s?" * "What was 2014 like for you?" Topics that are banned:* "Give the specific differences between the Early 2010s and Mid 2010s" * "What did Late 2008 really feel like?" * "Was 2006 the year everything changed?" * "2015 vs 2017" * "What was the last year that had Late '90s leftovers?" * "When will the next big cultural shift happen?" (or any thread that talks about a "shift") * "2006 vs 2008, which year felt like a bigger transition?" * "Which year had more change? 2016 or 2017?" * "The 2010s are the new 1950s" * "When are we going to enter the Mid 2020s era for music?" * "What was the last year to have an Early 2000s vibe?" A new "Stance on Decadeology" is currently being made. You can read the old version here.

I gotta be honest, I do find it hard to discern the difference between a lot of these.

I gotta be honest, I do find it hard to discern the difference between a lot of these. Topics which focus on "vibes", shifts or specific boundaries (e.g Early 2000s culture ending on 12th September 2001) are the ones which are discouraged on the forum. It's okay to talk about the trends from a certain era and how long they lasted, but when the focus of the topic gets bogged down by discussing the specific boundaries of cultural eras, that's when it starts to get into decadeology. Say, for instance, if someone said that the year 2011 was "80% 2010s and 20% 2000s", or if another person mentioned that the Early 2010s ended on the 1st April 2013. The focus should always be on the pop culture itself, not arbitrary boundaries.

Not to advertise or anything but i'm fine with these rules since I can already put the not allowed stuff on the r/GenZ subreddit since they're active and also lax with decadeology.
Also why is 2015 vs 2017 not allowed?
